This is The Prediction. Dubbed, The Big Reset, 2020 has exposed weaknesses in the world’s systems and structures, while accelerating some trends, and decelerating others. The #creativeindustries, so core to who we are as humans, have definitely not been immune - with massive shifts in the way we experience art and stories, to the way we shop, all the way through to how we structure what we do. In each episode of The Prediction, our fearless host Shruti Shekar from Yaho...o Finance takes a deep dive into what ‘the reset’ looks like for innovators in different corners of the #creative world. Each innovator is part of the Studio’s special Recovery Cohort incubator. In this first episode, Shruti is joined by The Studio leads Ramona Pringle, Ashley Jane Lewis, Andrea Romero, Dr. Emilia King to discuss how the fashion, media and design worlds have been impacted by the global pandemic, and what opportunities have arisen to build more inclusive, sustainable, and innovative creative sectors. We dive into screen production in the COVID era and the future of the movie business, how fashion is re-inventing itself to be more purpose-driven, how artists and innovators are reinventing gathering, and so much more.

Please note that the Creative Innovation Studio is supportive of all staff who wish to participate in the Scholar Strike by pausing academic and administrative duties this Wednesday, September 9th and Thursday September 10th. For the two days, we will not be holding regularly scheduled meetings or events within the Creative Innovation Studio. The Scholar Strike is "an academic call for racial justice, an end to anti-Black police violence and it adds a specific focus on anti-I...ndigenous, colonial violence." The goals of the Scholar Strike are aligned with the values of the Creative Innovation Studio and our mission with the Recovery Cohort. Organizers have curated two days of programming through public digital teach-ins, and we encourage our community to participate in these virtual events, along with us. As we start a new academic year, this is timely opportunity to learn and a pivotal reminder that we all have a role to play in actively working to end systemic injustices. Today marks the end of the #CommunitiesCreate initiative, but it’s also the start of a visionary time for innovation and a celebration of creation. The initiative was an opportunity for Canadians of all ages to connect with industry experts, each other, and creativity. The 20 creative skills workshops with leaders, cultural organizations, and academic institutions across Canada encouraged participants to create expressions about how they are feeling during the pandemic. Each ...week, collaborator organizations hosted live, free, online participatory creative workshops running the gamut of creativity photography, comedy, design, podcasts, mask-making, music, web series production , and much more all with the tools and equipment people have access to, at home. The campaign provided financial support to over 20 members of the creative community who are in need, through micro-grants for independent artists who hosted the workshops. As this huge project comes to a close, we would like to take the time to thank each and every one of you who made it possible. To everyone who is discovering their passion or calling, we’re right here with you!
