My family origins being French Canadian, we have always celebrated the Epiphany. The Epiphany is on January 6, and celebrates the visit of the Magi to the Christ Child. On that day, families get together to eat a special flat cake (galette). In it is a hard bean(sometimes a coin). Who ever found the bean would be crowned King or Queen for the day. Depending on the families, there were two cakes- one for the boys and one for the girls. I will be making some next week. PM me k...now if you would like one. Flaky pasty and a delicious almond filling is the best way to describe this galette . (Traditionally with rhum, mine will not have any alcohol.) Photo from Hervé Cuisine
