Big thanks to the volunteers!!
Ahem... All the world is not a stage and all the venues and arts groups are merely players with nowhere to spin their magic or earn a living during COVID. Your gifts to cfgp.ca/project/arts-alive-fund are helping keep them afloat. Thank you!
Yep, all the world is not a stage! Check out and share our latest video (with big thanks to Dan Smith and Megan Murphy) and help our local arts scene keep the lights on at cfgp.ca/project/arts-alive-fund
Hey folks! Day one of our bottle drive was fantastic and overwhelming (in a good way). Made almost $600 in returns. That is a lot of returns! Keep 'em coming next week. Let's try to beat that record. Remember we will accept returns every Saturday from 11am-2pm and will unload your car for you. Safe and efficient. Big thanks to Neil Hannam, Kate Story, Sarah McNeilly, Shannon McKenzie and Eryn Lidster for all their hard work! See you all next week!
Today at 3pm folks!
Since the pandemic began, Peterborough’s The Theatre on King - TTOK has been closed like all live performance venues. Now the small-but-mighty black-box theatr...e has announced some new small-but-mighty fundraisers in partnership with local businesses to help it get through the pandemic. Toast TTOK!, a holiday empties drive in support of the theatre, will run from Saturday, November 21st until Saturday, January 2nd. The fundraising campaign asks Peterborough to save and donate their empty alcohol bottles and cans for TTOK to deposit. Between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. every Saturday, supporters can drop their empties off at TTOK at 171 King Street in Downtown Peterborough, located right across the street from the King Street municipal parking garage. Supporters can also reach out to TTOK on social media to arrange for porch pick-ups between 11 a.m. and noon every Saturday. Eight Peterborough restaurants are also participating in the Toast TTOK campaign, generously pledging to donate all the empties that are produced on Giving Tuesday (December 1st). Our arts and culture writer Sarah McNeilly interviews The Theatre On King's Kate Story and Ryan Kerr, pictured during an outside performance of "Love in the Time of Covid" in October in a photo by Andy Carroll. Read the interview -- and find the list of participating restaurants and how other local businesses and organizations are supporting TTOK in its time of need -- in our story at https://kawarthanow.com//raise-a-glass-to-local-theatre-a/

On August 31st, the Electric City Culture Council EC3) in Peterborough launched Essential, a photography project that raises awareness of the precarious situa...tion of local artists and arts organizations during the COVID-19 pandemic. Part of EC3’s Peterborough Arts Alive initiative, the Essential project is a series of 17 photos by local photographer Julie Gagne that depicts 20 local artists during the pandemic. Each of the photos feature an artist or artists in their home or workplace and is accompanied by an artist statement about their experience of the pandemic. Twice each week until the end of October, kawarthaNOW is publishing photos from the series. Today, we feature theatre artist and writer Kate Story and Ryan Kerr, artistic director of The Theatre on King - TTOK. Read more at https://kawarthanow.com//the-essential-project-theatre-ar/

The Creepy Doll Museum returns to the Theatre on King this October. Dates yet to be announced, but get a sneak peek at what to expect in my latest article when... myself and Samantha Moss visit with Kathryn Bahun nd Ben Hatcher about the collection. The Creepy Doll Museum got national media attention last year, attracting hundreds of people. Make sure you don't miss this fascinating exhibit this year. See more
Our arts and culture writer Sarah McNeilly attended dress rehearsals this week for The Open Spaces Theatre Festival, opening tonight and running until Sunday at... outdoor locations in Downtown Peterborough. "Perhaps with the exception of retreating to a blanket-fort in the confines of your home, the Open Spaces Theatre Festival is one of the absolute safest activities you can partake in," Sarah writes. "Future-you will be so grateful to have gifted yourself the transformative, cathartic bliss Open Spaces generously offers (especially if it turns out to be your only chance to see theatre this year)." Pictured is Sarah's photo of Ryan Hancock and Tanya Filipopoulos performing during a dress rehearsal of "The 13th Sign Walks into a Bar" in the parking lot of The Theatre on King - TTOK. Written and directed by Alessandra Ferreri and produced by Dane Shumak of Cordwainer Productions, the play features original music by Caitlin Currie and Kevin Lemieux, performed by an ensemble comprised of the two songwriters, along with Justin Hiscox and Sam Quinn. Read more about the COVID-safe festival, including Sarah's mini-reviews of each of the four plays, in our story at https://kawarthanow.com//a-sneak-peek-of-the-open-spaces-/
Tickets are on sale for The Open Spaces Theatre Festival until Wednesday September 23rd. Come out and enjoy some socially distanced live theatre!!
