Back when my parents used to leave the house . From time to time I’d invite my parents to come watch me speak or host an event and I knew they’d love this one. I emceed the @obhs_on brunch for years. These days I’m not wishing for a special brunch to be with them. I just want to sit in their kitchen, catch up on their doctors’ appointments, get updates on family members and laugh at life. I want my mom to go off on anything. I want my dad to bust his deep belly laugh. I want... them to feel less isolated. And I want hugs. Lots of hugs. When your good sleeper stops sleeping . I’ve been approached many times to speak on parenting as an expert and I always say no. Why? Because I don’t know what I’m doing. Do any of us? Lio and I move on pure instinct and we’ve never properly followed the rules. My girl was the best sleeper you could imagine. She put herself down for naps as a toddler . I don’t know what is happening during this pandemic. Anxiety? Fear? Monotony? Uncertainty? Missing friends? But she’...s stopped sleeping. She needs me almost every night. Sometimes right away. Sometimes at 11pm. 1am. 2:30am. 3:30am. She’s 10 years old and while I’m mostly bone tired - I’m just getting up and sleeping with her. Rules be damned. My body seems to be the only thing that settles her. I write this to say - make up the rules that work for your family. Any solution you come up with is the right one. Over the holiday break we figured as I’m sure you did, that the kids would have to transition to remote learning. Instead of learning in the kitchen or their bedrooms @lioperron wanted us to be intentional about their space and create their own school in the basement. Challenge accepted . First pic is the final result. Second is the before. It was a nerf gun, LEGO, leftover toy graveyard. Now it’s a bright, comfy space in which they (so far) enjoy learning. We’re still... hitting walls here occasionally but at least they’re surrounded by reminders of who they are and what they’ve accomplished. Sid and I assembled all the furniture and I love the space so much Lio and I will use it as an office when they return to school (hopefully soon)?
