John Chan was one of several volunteers who came to the farm to help with the harvest this morning. In less than an hour, John picked close to 30 lbs of beans! ...These delicious yellow beans will be at the outdoor market on Sunday, 12:30-2:30pm. We are also selling them bulk - a great way to put more in your pantry or your freezer for the uncertain winter ahead. Please let us know if you would like to place an order. See more

Oversized pickling cukes - great for fermenting, fresh eating, bread and butter pickles or juicing. These are the ones that got away by hiding under leaves or weeds! We have a lot of them and not a lot of cold storage space so they must go! Great deal @ $1.50/lb!! Let’s make a deal!!

Are Farm Bonds a type of CSA (Community Supported Agriculture)? Yes sort of! Most CSA’s offer a pre-paid subscription to a weekly or bi-monthly delivery of pr...oduce that is harvested that week. Typically, one signs up for the whole season and receives a mix of veggies. Farm Bonds are more flexible in nature, allowing you to order the types of produce in the quantities that you want. Think of it as special farm food gift certificate! Both options give the farmer additional security and cash flow in the early part of the season and consumers a more direct connection to the farm that is growing their food. Check out the store for more details about our farm bonds and crops! https://www.blueberrycommonsfarmcooperative.com/farm-bonds

Hey All, In these strange and potentially stressful times, please remember that Sycamore Commons is a community resource for all. Located at the Anglican Church... in Townsite, there is always a plethora of useful and edible species available freely to all. All we ask is that you take just what you need and remember that others have needs too. If you are starting your seedlings now, please consider a few extra starts that we can plant out in these gardens so there will be plenty of food for anyone who needs it in the months ahead. Right now available there are some hardy greens (kale, chard, etc) an emerging patch of nettles, and plenty of herbs: thyme, comfrey, oregano, sage, rosemary, lavender, etc that can be harvested for your calming teas, immuno-boosters or for flavouring all those delicious meals you are preparing at home right now. All of the stone fruits are flowering, garlic is up, and the haskaps will be blooming soon. There will be much food throughout the spring and summer. You are also welcome, as always, to come and enjoy some solitude in the garden or to walk the labyrinth. Peace and wellness to all!

Now that the Powell River Seedy Saturday has been cancelled (a decision I fully support), I'll have plenty of time on Friday and Saturday to deliver biochar rig...ht to your door! Our char is activated with organic nutrients and beneficial microbes and is great in seeding mixes or directly in garden beds. Biochar lasts in the soil for hundreds or even thousands of years and has an incredible capacity for preventing the leeching away of soil nutrients. Biochar holds water and keeps the soil aerated - no need for peat, perlite, coir, or vermiculite - all of which have a very negative environmental impact. 4 litre bags are $15 each or two for $25. 24 litre bags are $65 or two for $120. I AM OFFERING FREE DELIVERY FOR ORDERS OF $25 OR MORE! Not into human contact right now? You can pay by E-transfer or leave me a cheque and I will drop the biochar right on your doorstep. Please message me here or email [email protected] to place your order. Let's not forget how important growing and supporting local food is for the long term health and security of our community! Keep saving and sharing seeds and time to start your seedlings and hardy outdoor crops!

I have a lovely batch of new biochar ready for Seedy Saturday in Powell River! This char is made from local woody waste materials (branches, construction cut of...fs, slash, etc) and is activated with organic nutrients and beneficial soil microbes. It is excellent in seeding mixes and takes the place of peat, vermiculite or perlite (all of which have a high environmental impact). Biochar also sequesters carbon and lasts in your soil for hundreds or thousands of years, holding on to nutrients and providing housing for all the important soil microbes. Bring your soil to life with biochar! We will have 4 litre and 24 litre bags for sale. Can't make Seedy Saturday? Drop me a line and I will save you some. Drop off in Powell River can be arranged for orders of 24 litres or more.
