Just some examples of the local handwork that is now available at the Village Green. Lots more to see in the store and lots more coming in time for gift giving ..... "gifts that show you care!"
As we head into the cooler months, it is time to return to creating handcrafts. The Village Green has several lap frames for needlepoint work, tapestries and wool kits which are becoming quite popular.
Busy week picking and squishing tomatoes for next year's seed crop. But I wanted you all to see Lucy .... the wee stray we found exactly one year ago today. She has turned into a beautiful loving youngster who sadly will never have full sight in one eye but it certainly doesn't slow her down any. And she likes my quilts!
Stop by the Village Green to see our newest arrivals - my isolation wall hanging and the most beautiful display of sunflowers I have ever grown.
Joanne French of Marsh Hill Farm just delivered 3 buckets of heirloom tomatoes to me - so good - sandwiches in my future!. Says she has lots of fresh produce - just in time for the weekend. Make a stop on your way home - on Marsh Hill Rd just off Hwy 14 on the way to Stirling.
More quilts (large and small) are now in the store in time for Christmas gift delivery by post. Our Take a Book, Leave a Book has a good supply of children's books and a stack of quilting magazines as well as many mysteries, drama, etc for adults.
We have some new items - many more masks including some colourful ones for children (3-6 years or 7-12 years), larger ones for men heads and a few for teens. These masks are made by a local artisan out of quilt grade cottons; many have the nose wire and all have a slot to insert extra filtering. Also new is a great selection of olives and pickled peppers and a Sensitive shampoo and conditioner from Sukin.
Watermelon radishes are ready and they are sooo good! I just can't eat them all so I am offering them for sale. Just come to the store and I'll pull them fresh for you. The Take a Book, Leave a Book is going very well - lots of new books just arrived. Something for almost everyone - even kids.
I was just outside doing a rain dance .... didn't work!! .... so far. Waiting....
The tomato cages have finally arrived .... now that the tomato plants are almost too tall to accept them!! Only $4 each. Also, the Gaia Green kelp meal in 1.5 kg pails is here - just in time to get your first feed on the garden.
FYI - We are now on SUMMER HOURS which means the store is only open Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 9 to 5. Once I figure out how to get back into my website, I'll post the new hours there. See you soon!
Other items in the front foyer - Neem Oil to combat those pesky potato beetles, Mosquito Barrier to ward off mosquitoes and ticks and more delightful creations from our favourite local artisan - funky bird houses and a butterfly home.
New for us - TAKE A BOOK, LEAVE A BOOK. I was running out of reading material, so I thought I would start up a wee lending library. It is located in the front foyer of the Village Green - easily accessible. BTW - more books will be added as I go through my bookshelves. Help yourself.
Last two days before all the remaining tomato seedlings get sent away ... come get some to fill in those empty spots in your garden. We also have locally made masks - even special ones for Canada Day!! Have a safe and productive weekend.
I want to personally thank and recommend two local businesses that have helped me out this week. HITCHON PUMPS came out and fixed my water problems at the store - fast, fun and fair. ARRAY OF COLOUR (painters from Stirling) repainted a spare bedroom and did a perfect and professional job. Give Marissa and Michael a call at 613-929-9781.
1/2 price on all remaining seedlings. We still have a great selection of tomatoes and hot peppers. Just want to get them into good homes before it is too late to plant. P.S. We have NEEM OIL in stock.
Yesterday, thanks to the generous help from my gracious friend Ruth, we planted the rest of the tomato seedlings that will need to be grown out for next year's seed. Today, the beans go in ... and perhaps some flowers! We still have some tomato seedlings left for sale.
HOT PEPPERS - finally ready for sale - Ancho Poblano Chile, Cayenne Chile, Habanero and Jalopeno chiles. Also sweet golden peppers, Chocolate mint, lemon thyme and catnip.
We still have lots of heirloom tomato seedlings. We are getting low on beefsteak - thankfully!! But why buy a large red slicer when you have the choice of Big Rainbow, Black from Tula, Dad's Sunset, Montreal Tasty, Vintage Wine or White Mikado - all large, colourful and flavourful. And there are still lots of choice for cherry tomatoes - black ones, red ones, green ones, yellow pear, red pear and Lemon Drop. Open Tuesdays to Saturdays 9-5.
Many of the tomato seedlings are ready to go to new homes. There are also 4 varieties of peppers - sweet or hot.
