What a terrific performance by Oliver in his first year of piano studies!! Love this swingin' tune "Sherlock Homes," written by Mike Schoenmehl.
Sharing this awesome performance from our Spring Recital! 'Alyssa Greene' from The Prom, performed by Anna Bartlam
I feel so lucky that both my mom and I share a passion for music! She is a remarkable pianist and has been a music educator her entire life. I've had the unlikely (but wonderful!) experience of having her as my elementary school music teacher in grades 5-8, and have had the joy of rehearsing and performing alongside her in several community music productions put on by the Westben Theatre. She has accompanied me on numerous occasions including my audition to the Humber College... vocal jazz program; and we both completed music education degrees at Western University. She has always been a great supporter and cheerleader in all of my music pursuits. I wish I had more recordings of my mom playing the piano, but here is a song we recorded 17 years ago during my time studying musical theatre at the Randolph College for the Performing Arts. It was recorded by Andy Thompson at Studio 29 near Warkworth. Happy Mother's Day!
Feeling so grateful for these thoughtful and generous gifts!!
Why not dress up fancy for your daily piano practice?!
Here's a sneak peak into our studio recital this year!! A little humour for your day! I have the best students and this puts a huge smile on my face!! More highlights to follow...
Grateful to receive such a thoughtful and generous gift from a student! Lovely, soft handmade dish cloths, and dinner out at my favourite restaurant!! So excited for an evening out when the city re-opens! Thank you!!
Today wraps up 6 weeks of virtual lessons @ The Voice Studio!! This song has been the soundtrack in my head since this whole thing started! (This recording courtesy of my days at Humber College in the vocal jazz choir, circa 2007 ish?) Truthfully, it's been wonderful to have this technology available to continue lessons with my students. I applaud these young musicians for embracing this new normal and persevering despite the challenges that online learning can present. You guys are amazing!!!
Busy editing student recordings between lessons this week! I love listening to these with students during our final lesson of the year to reflect on what they’ve accomplished and how far they’ve come. 99 songs recorded this year!!! I’m no audio engineer, but I’m definitely getting better at Cubase!
Good luck to all students completing *virtual* voice and theory exams this week with Conservatory Canada! You've prepared well and are going to do a great job! www.conservatorycanada.ca
