St Nick Delivered Christmas gifts to our Welcome Home children .

The Welcome Home 25.11.2020

2021 is just hours away, I'm reminded of quotes, words from inspiring men a couple of my favorite, they were in high places of authority, in the public eye, different times, but simple, the life they lived one can only imagine. We live by example, that's why its so important to pray for our leaders. Here goes..... "We can't help everyone but everyone can help someone." Ronald Reagan... "As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them." John F. Kennedy. One of the commandments : " You shall Love your neighbor as thyself". Mark12:31 I was reflecting about the past year, here at The Welcome Home and found myself thinking of people that inspired me and there have been so so many. My life has been blessed with family, friends and people with many gifts of their own, who have have helped me along the way in my own journey to all all of you I thank you! The words from Ronald Reagan spoke of how we can't help everyone which is true, we can do what we can with what we have and who we are but what I have seen here at the WH everyone steps in to help. Doesn't matter who or where you come from people just help each other in any way they are able to. John F Kennedy said it best this way, As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them. Clearly all of our benefactors, and those that give to us here at The Welcome Home give generously so that others can have something. Whether it's a food hamper, lunch, warm cloths, warm knitted gloves, mitts , scarves, slippers and blankets. Lots and lots of fresh veggies were also donated. Schools and Catechism classes continued to donate Christmas gifts so children could still have a little extra gifts for Christmas. Ladies were outstanding giving, giving and giving. This year we were able to give more because we were given more. So much was received and so much was given out. Surely, you can all see what we have seen all along, that there many people that make the Welcome home what it is, you who give and those who volunteer, work and live here who make things happen. Thank you for all your generous giving. Our families and all those that come to our doors also thank you. Jesus said " Love your neighbors as thyself. This I see in all of you. God Bless Blessing Stay safe!

The Welcome Home 28.10.2020

Good Morning everyone, COVID-19 has changed our lives and the world drastically. We are reminded everyday STAY SAFE! with the increase in numbers every day, I wonder are we staying safe. We who are sick do you really stay home? I've noticed here and there people don't practice wearing their mask. I hear about the countless amount of death COVID-19 has taken. I try my best with my family to stay in our bubbles. I know sometimes it seems difficult because you want to see family... or friends. Im glad that technology makes it easier for us to connect facetime, Skype and all other internet connections. Lets continue to STAY SAFE keep with our bubbles and pray for one another. This Sunday, November 8 is the Annual Day for the Promotion of the Redemptorist Missionary Vocation Below is a prayer that we can pray and to keep praying for our students Ivan, Noel and Gabriel and that God will continue to call others to serve at The Welcome Home. Prayer for Vocations to the Redemptorist Family Provident God, You spoke your dream of Plentiful Redemption in Jesus Christ. Your Spirit ignited the heart of St. Alphonsus, inspiring him to found a family in the Church dedicated to proclaiming the Good News of Plentiful Redemption to the most abandoned. Raise up among us strong women and men of faith, afire with love for you and zeal for the mission of proclaiming your Word among those who do not know you, or who need to hear your Word proclaimed anew. Guide men to respond with generosity as vowed Redemptorist priests and brothers, and women and men to serve in joy and hope as partners in the Redemptorist mission. We ask this in the name of Jesus, Your Word, who is our Life. Amen

Feast of Christ the King

The Welcome Home 30.09.2020

The Feast of St Gerard brings us to a time to celebrate his life, to remember what and how he inspired so many. Here are some words... FOR YOUR REFLECTION Do you know of peopleor have you yourselfturned to St. Gerard for intercession in pregnancy or childbirth? How does Gerard’s joyful attitude to lifeeven in the face of challengesspeak to your heart? How do you see yourself as a witness to and advocate for life in the spirit of St. Gerard?

The Welcome Home 11.09.2020

Today we celebrate the feast of St Gerard Majella. GERARD MAJELLA: JOYFUL WITNESS TO AND FOR LIFE St. Gerard Majella is most often invoked as the unofficial patron of people wishing to conceive, and of women experiencing difficulties in pregnancy. How did this... come to be? There are a number of stories that date from Gerard’s earthly life that point to him as an intercessor for life. Some say his frail health gave him compassion for ailing mothers-to-be. Others cite his miraculous prayers for troubled pregnancies. Italian women called him il santo de felice parti, the saint of happy childbirth. Today, St. Gerard’s joyful engagement in life, and his charitable outreach to the most abandoned people of his day leads us to consider him a saintly advocate and intercessor for life. AND SO, WE PRAY OUR NOVENA PRAYER Loving God, we rejoice to celebrate Gerard Majella, early saint of the Redemptorist Community, who loved to refer to You as the thief of hearts. With Gerard, we yearn to give our hearts to You ever more intensely, for You never cease pouring Yourself into our hearts. Grateful for Gerard’s companionship, may we, in his words, re-create ourselves in the immensity of Your Being, and serve more faithfully the poor and wounded, as he says, who are the living images of Jesus Christ. For it is in that Christ we lift our prayer to You, Source of all goodness, through the fire-light of the Holy Spirit, forever and ever. Amen.

Through the years we have had many many Courchene gatherings. It was always nice to have Fr larry, Fr Len or any or the father's come and celebrate with us. This last gathering was taken before the Freindship centre closed it's doors. We had the priveledge of having Fr Len come and celebrate with us. We ended our night with our reg group picture. Fr Len enjoyed himself he was able to visit each one. He was in a good space of reminising, past to present with the Courchene children, who are grown with children of their own. It was a good night for Fr Len and for all of us. Thank you Fr Len for inspiration and good memories.

Over this past year The Welcome Home has been blessed with the support of many Volunteers. This year would have been much more difficult without them and in gratitude we want to do a ‘shout-out’ to those who offer their time and service! Carl has been coming to The Welcome Home for many years. This year he has been supporting us by helping set up for Family Night, and has taken on a large role preparing and distributing hampers and lunch bags on Wednesday mornings. His jokes... and humour keep us laughing and the spirits light as we minister together. Christian is a young man who is always around helping with this and that! His help during Family Night is always appreciated as well as his help around The Welcome Home with different building projects as well as carrying heavy loads and unloading them. His quiet steady presence is always wonderful to have around. Leona just spent a month with us. She is a young adult who came from Alberta to volunteer for a month. She and Ed could be found prepping for programs as well as working on house projects to baking muffins or pies for everyone to enjoy. Her persistent and playful energy brought life and colour each day she was here. Caroline, Linda,Phyllis and Dolly, our ever-faithful Kitchen Supervisors for Family Night. The have been volunteering with us for many years and we honestly couldn’t do what we do without their support and dedication to the mission. They always have a fun story to share around a cup of coffee and a baked good before we are all called away to be present during Family Night. There are many others who have come and been present in our ministry over the year and who continue to share this experience with us. We thank you for your time and hearts of service! See more

I was informed of the passing of Fr. Len yesterday, we were aware that he was not doing well for some time now and that his fight with cancer had taken it's toll on him. We were saddened by this news and thankful at the same time. Saddened that he no longer will be with us here in the physical world but we are happy beacause he will be with our Lord and savior. Fr Len Has been a big part of The Welcome home for many years. He lived at The Welcome from 1996 to 1999 and again ...from 2005-2011. Fr. Len had been a part of our lives for a long time and he certainly nourished our spirits with his Homilies, his personal sharing on life, and he continued to bless us with his kind words of wisdom. Fr Len will be missed and we thank him for his years of dedication here at The Welcome Home. He certainly was family to all of us. He was one that you can talk to about things, or sit and eat ice cream with or watch a tv show together. We all have memories of times we have had with him. Fr Len was also a big part of St Andrews he had been pastor there for many years. He will be remembered and missed by those that new him from St Andrews parish. Funeral services for Fr. Len have been finalized. On Wednesday, September 30, there will be a public viewing from 1:00-4:00pm with time for people to pray and pay their respects. A limited number of people will be allowed in the church for a short period of time because Manitoba's COVID-19 restrictions limit gatherings to 10 people as of last Friday. This will occur at St. Andrew's Ukrainian Catholic Church (160 Euclid Ave., Winnipeg, MB) where Fr. Len was pastor for many years. This will be followed by a private celebration (again due to COVID-19 restrictions) of the Priestly Parastas service with Metropolitan Lawrence Huculak and the Winnipeg Redemptorist community. Fr. Len's body will be transported to Yorkton, SK on Thursday, October 1.
