Our friends at SaveOurWater.CA have started a petition about including plastic single use water bottles on the list of single use plastics that the government plans to ban in 2021. They have rapidly accumulated a lot of names. Can you help now by adding yours? https://petitions.ourcommons.ca/en/Petition/Details

For too long, developers and land speculators have been lobbying Mayors and Council Members for sprawl-style development that harms natural areas, farmland and water sources we need in and around the #Greenbelt.

"The Ford government is failing to obey environmental laws,." A series of reports found "the province is not collecting enough data to know whether it’s actually conserving protected lands and endangered species." This is beyond concerning. https://www.nationalobserver.com//auditor-general-rebuke-f FordNation

A petition with more than 100,000 signatures was delivered to Nestlé's Headquarters in Switzerland on Thursday, demanding that 6 environmentally sensitive sites in Canada and US be returned to the public before Nestle completes the sale of their North American operations. Wellington Water Watchers are part of an international coalition making this demand. Our Swiss partner, Campax, delivered the petition on our behalf. #SayNOToNestle #WaterForLifeNotProfit

Wellington Water Watchers demands that Nestlé Waters Canada revert its claimed rights to the well and bottling plant in Aberfoyle, and the wells in Hillsburgh and Middlebrook back to public ownership as part of the company’s planned sale of its bottled water brands. The Ohneganos Haudenosaunee grandmothers and youth water committee has verbally expressed they would like the Nestle plant in Aberfoyle returned to Six Nations to provide restitution for illegally removing waters without consent. Let's make it happen. https://action.storyofstuff.org/sign/nestles-troubled-waters The Story of Stuff Project #SayNOToNestle #WaterForLifeNotProfit

"We cannot treat people of Neskantaga differently compared to people who are in Mississauga, people in Toronto," Mamakwa said. "We cannot have this kind of apartheid system of access to clean drinking water." https://www.cbc.ca//t/neskantaga-water-apartheid-1.5777446

"We cannot allow our current government’s actions to put us at risk with the already degraded environmental protection, the 'open for business' mantra, the red herring of red tape, and bypassing democratic and transparent processes," says Susan Koswan in the Waterloo Region Record https://www.therecord.com//rush-to-be-open-for-business-in

Production of plastic from fossil fuels is set to double by 2040. Let's tell the government that reduction and reuse must be part of a true zero plastic waste strategy!

The #Ontario government is fast-tracking a plan to pave over 50% of the Lower Duffins Creek wetland in Pickering for a warehouse development. Join this webinar with the Canadian Environmental Law Association (CELA) and Ontario Nature on what the attack on Conservation Authorities means, and how we can stop the province’s destructive path and save Duffins Creek. https://us02web.zoom.us//register/WN_DHj8gPW3RT2h-Ovm-4pEMg

Bottled water is a manufactured demand that produces literal tonnes of plastic waste every day.

We can phase out Ontario’s gas-fired power plants by 2030. If we do, it would provide Ontario with basically all the greenhouse gas pollution reductions that it needs to achieve its 2030 climate target. Tell FordNation to step it up! Canada committed to protecting 25% of Canada’s land and ocean by 2025 and 30% by 2030, which is a huge increase from the 13% that is currently protected. We need the country to meet these targets to prevent further loss of species and become more resilient to #climatechange. Send a letter to the Minister of Environment and Climate Change before October 30th!

We are calling on Nestlé Waters Canada to revert the #Aberfoyle bottling plant back to public ownership and give the complex to #SixNations, a water insecure community. This would be an appropriate act of #reconciliation. https://www.wellingtonadvertiser.com/wellington-water-watc/
