The Wellness Collective 23.09.2020

Mindfulness can be a powerful tool in managing pain. One thing that I know about pain, from my own journey with it, is that it can be debilitating and isolating, which only contributes to the hopelessness. We often feel that no one else understands and to an extent, this is true. This 5-session group will have both a psychoeducational component around mindfulness, as well as providing a space to share your experience and connect with others that face similar challenges. In case you haven’t heard, we have some exciting announcements for the Fall. The most exciting part being that we are welcoming our very first practicum student, Spencer Dawson! Spencer will be doing her practicum placement with The Wellness Collective - her final step before graduation! We chose Spencer because she has similar approaches to therapy as well as shared values and passion. Spencer will be supervised by Kristen and is available to see clients on Thursdays and Fridays, beginning this week, at a reduced rate of $40/session. To book a session > https://thewellnesscollectivebc.ca/spencer We will also be running 2 groups this fall - I’ll post more details soon In the meantime, welcome Spencer - We are so excited to have you onboard! - Kristen

We’ve got some exciting new things in store for the Fall! 1. We have a new addition to the team! Over the next few weeks, we will be introducing you to our new MA of Counselling practicum student, Spencer Dawson, who will be providing LOW-COST counselling to youth and adults in the South Surrey/WR area. If you would like to be put on the waitlist to see her, feel free to reach out via email at [email protected]... 2. Circle of Security Parenting Group In November 2020, Spencer and Kristen will be facilitating an 8-week attachment-based parenting group for parents of school-aged children. The aim of this group is to help families foster more connection with their child(ren) and learn new ways of helping both themselves and their child(ren) regulate emotions using the power of attachment. Dates TBD, and depending on COVID-19 recommendations at this time, group sessions will either be held in White Rock or online. If you are interested in being put on the waitlist to see Spencer, or would like to learn more about the Circle of Security curriculum, feel free to reach out!

Connection is a cure for shame because shame feeds on loneliness. When you share something you feel bad about with others and they respond with empathy or their own particular shame, the loneliness is undone. Connection is the antidote for shame, be it a connection between your Self and your shamed part or a connection to other people who help you feel loved and accepted, despite the very things you believed rendered you unlovable....Accessing old memories that counteract sh...ame can also help mitigate shame. Remember times you felt loved, connected, safe, and complimented. Instead of dismissing those, try to sit with them. Although this takes work and mental energy, sitting with positive affirming memories can heal shame.
