Public Service Announcement: How to spot if your health care provider is selling you snake oil. I did an assessment on a client of mine and referred them to go get imaging. As we are taught in school for protocol, ethics and safety reasons when you are dealing with spinal pain and discomfort you go see a primary care facilitator who orders further tests be done to identify what is going on.... My client went to a physio place and immediately was prescribed a 6 treatment plan. The first day they did absolutely everything that the place had available to them and at the end never once explained to the client what was going on or had any imaging ordered for their concern, which was not resolved. When dealing with the spine, you must identify before treating. Period. When my client came back to me and told me what was happening I was happy they were seeking help and asked them with all that they did, did they find out what was the issue or order any tests. My Client said no. Red Flag! Please for the sake of your health. If your provider is quick to prescribe sessions without even identifying what your concern is... start asking questions. The person to best help you get back to being you is the one that embraces your questions and works their ass off to get you the answers you need. Also when they keep you in the dark about what you need to know then you are obligated to seek help elsewhere. You only get one body. There are so many different professionals that can help you, never settle with the first one if it doesn't feel like the right one. My promise remains, I will never waste your time.
