Melanie came to Think and Wonder on Tuesday to show us how to make yogurt. The kiddies had fun looking at the bubbles come up in the pot while we waited for it to boil. We had to wait a day for it to turn into yogurt so yesterday we did some taste testing. We tried, plain, chocolate, blueberry and maple syrup. Blueberry was the favourite! Each kiddo got to take a jar home to share with their families. Thank you Melanie for coming to help!
We had more discussions about what we learned about farms last week and we talked more about eggs. I let the children explore the parts of the eggs. Some of the kiddies were very interested and stayed and played with them for quite a while.
Check out the fun sensory bin we have been playing with. I added some farm animals and kiddos have been creating great stories as they play. Others are just having fun pouring and emptying their little cups.
Our discussions on where our food comes from led to us talking about farms. Last week we had Robyn, a farmer, come to visit Think and Wonder. She talked about several animals she has and the foods they make. The kiddies were especially excited to meet a chicken and see the coloured eggs they lay. Thank you Robyn for coming to share!
The kiddies and I made some bread. They helped mix the ingredients and knead the dough, I think that was their favourite part. After it was cooked we put our homemade butter on it. It was so delicious! We decided to make some more bread and put it into little loaves so the kiddies could each take some home to share with their families. I am excited to see what the kiddies will want to make next!
We made butter! We poured some cream, which we learned comes from a cow, into a jar and did some shaking. We shook and shook and kept peeking to see the progress. Our arms got tired but after some time we heard the thunk noise and opened up to see that it had turned into butter and buttermilk. The kiddies were pretty proud of themselves. Check in on Monday to see what we made to put our butter on!
