Think Hantsport 21.02.2021

(The following is taken from our blog at thinkhantsport.blogspot.ca): Think Hantsport would like to thank everyone who attended our meeting last night at the Baptist Church Fellowship Hall in Hantsport. Over 100 people were in attendance, including many interested citizens of the Town and several public officials. The discussion was lively and informative, and we hope this will continue as we look toward the future of our Town. We would also like to thank Eastlink Televis...ion for their technical support and recording of the proceedings. We look forward to seeing their finished reproduction of the meeting. A very special thanks also goes to Mr. Frank Fraser for making the long trip and sharing his experience with the dissolution of his former Town of Canso, where he was the Mayor. Many parallels exist between the situation the Town of Hantsport currently faces and the events surrounding the dissolution of the Town of Canso, and Mr. Fraser's comments provided insight into some of the things we might expect in the event that the Town of Hantsport was dissolved. Plenty of support was shown from those in attendance, in the form of signatures to our Petition to Support Think Hantsport. The action petitioned is restated here: We, the undersigned citizens of Hantsport, 1) support Think Hantsport in their response to the dissolution application by researching and sharing information and fostering discussion about the Town of Hantsport's viability and exploring alternate solutions; 2) Further we support Think Hantsport in their request of Town Council to withdraw the dissolution application and join the citizens of Hantsport in exploring alternate solutions to strengthen and grow the Town; and 3) Further, failing that Town Council withdraw the dissolution application, we support Think Hantsport in applying for formal intervenor status on the UARB application; and 4) Further, we support Think Hantsport in requesting of the UARB that a citizen plebiscite identifying the true level of support for dissolution be undertaken as part of the application study. If you support these actions, and haven't signed our petition, an opportunity to do so can be arranged by emailing us at: [email protected] We would be happy to have someone bring it to your door, or arrange for you to meet us at your convenience with a copy of the petition for you to sign. All the best, Think Hantsport Blog Team

The Province has released updated Financial Indicators for Municipalities in Nova Scotia. Check out the link below and navigate to "Financial Condition Index" and select Hantsport from the drop-down list to find our report. Hantsport is in the "green" on 9 out of 15 indicators (above average of all Towns in NS and above the threshold of where a "healthy" Town should be), "red" on 4 indicators (below average and threshold) and "yellow" on 2 (below average but above threshold). A look at some of the other Towns in NS reveals that Hantsport is in better shape than many. Stay tuned for more analysis. http://www.novascotia.ca/dma/finance/indicators.asp
