Starting off 2021 with a BANGER! For EP 082 we are joined by Jeff Sorenson, the Founder of breathARMY, and a survivor in every sense of the word. He's been through near death experiences, working for Mexican drug lords, and seeing jailtime in a couple of countries that aren't his own. Through all that (and a lot more), he's found gratitude and essential wisdom, now saying that he "wouldn't trade his life for anything". Buckle up, listen in, and learn how to connect more deeply with your breath, and by extension, your true self. THIS is Obstacle Course. Take a deep breath, and let's go!

Consistent movement does NOT come naturally to most people. Although we are a species that must move, we resist this truth with gritted teeth. To understand why we resist something so integral to our quality of life, it's helpful to remember our brain's 2 main priorities. Procreation and Energy Conservation (Survival). I know, right? Our brain is ridiculous. Which is exactly why we need to constantly remind it of the freakin bloody obvious.( dude, if you want to survive, then... mooooooooove!) To help you move easily and with a sense of purpose, I present Monkey Bar Gym Vancouver Island. You might remember Simon Young's incredible episode way back in Episode 4 where he showed us all How to Live With No Excuses. And then again in Episode 74 when he returned and reminded us why daily movement is critical to our mental health and well being. When COVID threatened to shut down Monkey Bar, Simon and Kathleen pivoted and began to sell their used equipment to help members keep moving at home. When members mentioned they could use some extra guidance, Simon began to make FREE that's right FREE tutorial videos that anyone could follow and easily perform in an area no bigger than a phone booth. (nice reference John, I bet you work out to Rick Astley you 80's freak). The point is, we no longer have any excuse not to sweat every day. And now we can move and sweat with a sense of purpose. The fact that so few people know about these videos is an absolute crime. Simon is a guru in the industry and although you will have to put up with his fake British accent and incredible body, his movements are easy to follow no matter who you are or how little you move. If you're wondering where to start, start with this gem! From here, I encourage you to go down the rabbit hole and watch all Simon's videos. Take your laptop or phone with you into the phone booth and copy Simon's movements, making them work for you! Over time, you too can have lean muscles and an awkward accent. In all seriousness, there is a treasure trove of videos here and I encourage you to use them. And then share them. If money is tight, the best way to support your local small business is to share this post and/or YouTube channel on your social media. Simon and Kathleen have put a ton of time and effort in to ensuring you keep moving and we are lucky to have them as part of our community. Thank you Simon and Kathleen!! We love you. Now share this post and let's go get it!

NEW EPISODE ALERT! It took us 80 episodes to be able to have this conversation. We sat down with Chris Wilkinson and we had planned to discuss his grief process in the wake of his father's death, and we did, but then! The conversation took a hard right and before we knew it we were discussing toxic masculinity. And how men struggle to share real emotion - especially if that emotion isn't anger. We discuss why men struggle with emotions like sadness and fear, what the terribl...e phrases, "man up and don't be a pussy," really mean, and how we can move forward and be better men, fathers, grandfathers and partners. Please listen and then share this episode with all of the men in your life. Now that we know better, we can do better.

Do you remember our conversation with WW II veteran, George Brewster? If you haven't listened to our once in a lifetime conversation with this incredibly kind and honourable 97 year old man who flew Spitfires in the second world war, please give it a listen and share. Lest we forget.

NEW EPISODE ALERT!! For episode 79, we continue our trend of hosting political discussions. We're pleased to welcome Dr. Valerie D'Erman, Instructor of Political Science at the University of Victoria, to the podcast. In this discussion, we were reminded that most things in life are not black and white, not the least of which is politics. We discovered the importance of having a neutral perspective as it helps us understand all sides of any discussion. We took on World Politics including the EU, Brexit, and the upcoming votes in North America. We also tackled the danger of Populism, the importance of Democracy, and if Universal Basic Income (UBI) is a good idea. This! Is Obstacle Course. Let's Go!

"The most important thing, and I’ve said this to the other candidates is that on the other side of an election campaign, or being the leader of a political party, I want to emerge fully and entirely myself." - Sonia Furstenau This episode isn’t about promoting a certain party or candidate, it’s about realizing that politicians are people, in one of the most challenging careers one can choose. It was incredibly refreshing to speak to a politician who was truly authentic and willing to go behind the scenes in the political arena. Want to know what it’s like to campaign (often bitterly) against someone who you have worked closely with, and will need to collaborate with in the future? Want to know how it feels doing a televised debate with millions paying attention? What makes the constant scrutiny worth it? Listen, and find out.
