We have lost a dear friend, colleague and spiritual leader. The Reverend Tom Vais passed away suddenly at home this past Sunday morning. He had been in team ministry at Thornhill Presbyterian Church with his wife, the Reverend Dr. Heather Vais, since 2007, but also served on National committees of the Presbyterian Church in Canada, and leadership positions of the Presbytery of Oak Ridges, and local ecumenical programs through the Thornhill Ministerial Association. Most famili...ar to TUC, Tom co-chaired the community Christmas Assistance Program with our Council Chair for many years. His warm smile and twinkling eyes were always welcoming, his words and presence reassuring and his deep faith in action inspiring. He loved well and was loved well. He rests now in God’s arms of grace, but his touch lives on in all who knew him. Our thoughts and prayers are with Heather and family, and with the TPC community, at this time of grief and loss.

Jesus announced the coming of God’s reign a commonwealth not of domination but of peace, justice, and reconciliation. He healed the sick and fed the hungry. He... forgave sins and freed those held captive by all manner of demonic powers. He crossed barriers of race, class, culture, and gender. He preached and practised unconditional love love of God, love of neighbour, love of friend, love of enemy and he commanded his followers to love one another as he had loved them. Because his witness to love was threatening, those exercising power sought to silence Jesus. He suffered abandonment and betrayal, state-sanctioned torture and execution. He was crucified. a reflection for Good Friday from A Song of Faith: A Statement of Faith of The United Church of Canada http://www.united-church.ca/prayers/witness-love #UCCan #GoodFriday #HolyWeek [Claudio Ungari, Flickr (CC BY 2.0)]
