Three Wee Monkeys

Today I will not be posting about yarn, or projects or patterns, those things can wait. Today I post about a much more important topic. "I understand that I will never understand. However, I stand." I have not posted about this because as a white woman in Canada I can honestly say I felt unqualified to do so. What do I know about racism? Growing up going from one small country school to another and raised to treat all people equal, and having my husbands black best friend a...s our best man in our wedding, I have never seen such behaviour towards the black community first hand. I could never understand how real it is. Until I saw the above statement on a friends timeline and it caused me to break down into tears. I will not sit by silently while people with the same blood that runs through my veins, through my children's veins, suffer. ALL LIVES, big, small, black, brown, white, male, female, young, old, gay, straight or otherwise are EQUALS! I will never be able to wrap my head around how anyone could feel that their life or their race is more valuable or "better" than any other. I have never and WILL NEVER allow racist behaviour or thoughts to fly in my presence. My children will only ever know that all races and genders are equal to themselves and are to treated with respect and dignity. I vow to NEVER tolerate otherwise from my family, friends, colleagues or strangers around me. #BlackOutTuesday #BlackLivesMatter #Istand
