Why not add flax to tuna salad? This occurred to me last night as I whipped up an easy dinner. Echo needs the omegas and Mommy needs the extra fibre right now ... I chose light tuna over white because it contains less heavy metals like mercury. I always take a few chlorella tablets when I eat big fish this binds any metals that I might be ingesting with it. I used grass fed yogurt for moisture & extra protein for this healing mama , and added apples for some sweetness & extra crunch #naturalmama #newborn #postpartumhealing #postpartumjourney #naturalpregnancy #healthymama #babywellness #kingsvilleontario #mykingsville #yqg #yqgbusiness #windsorontario #leamingtonontario #lasalleontario #tecumsehontario #amherstburgontario #wheatleyontario #chathamontario #ruthvenontario #harrowontario #essexontario #tilburyontario

Our little eggplant is here! Echo forever changed our lives when he came Earth-side just 13 days ago. His arrival didn’t go exactly as planned but we have no doubt that it went exactly as it was meant to ... Echo entered this world healthy, strong, and big! Currently, his absolute favourite activity is nursing. He loves it so much that he has already surpassed his birth weight by half a pound! Happy Son Day little hungry man! You’ll see a little slow-down in content as we get to know each other as a family during this precious time. I hope to be back with some new mama, baby, and general wellness musings sometime in the near-ish future #sonday #naturalmama #newborn #naturalpregnancy #healthymama #babywellness #kingsvilleontario #mykingsville #yqg #yqgbusiness #windsorontario #leamingtonontario #lasalleontario #tecumsehontario #amherstburgontario #wheatleyontario #chathamontario #ruthvenontario #harrowontario #essexontario #tilburyontario @ Kingsville, Ontario

Getting my mind right for my (hopeful) home birth We’re 40 weeks in, and Baby Del could make its appearance at any moment! Have you noticed that there’s a lot of focus on physical preparation for childbirth? Sooo many elixirs and exercises that are supposed make labour go smoother. While I buy into and have been practicing many of these (personal natural induction protocol coming soon), I want to point out that pregnancy and childbirth, not unlike overall wellness, have a... MASSIVE mental component! I’d like to share with you what I’ve been doing over the past weeks and months to prepare my mind for the final stretch of the journey to meeting Baby Del! First and foremost: educating myself. I knew I wanted to have a low intervention home birth before I fully knew why. After some serious research on the benefits of low intervention births for healthy mamas & babies, and the drawbacks of mostly well intentioned interventions (on healthy mamas & babies), I have the information and therefore confidence to hold steady to my beliefs when they otherwise might be shaken by the comments and opinions of others, or even my own fears. Acknowledging the fears/doubts/anxieties as they come up. That’s all they are. Prayer and surrendering the whole thing to God Repeating and meditating on Affirmations/mantras/significant Bible verses (Supernatural Pregnancy and Childbirth Affirmations by Good News Affirmations on Audible has been very helpful) Hypnobirthing relaxation and visualization exercises (from the book Hypnobirthing, the Mongan Method) Being careful about who I engage in conversations re: pregnancy & childbirth. -when this fails, mentally shutting out the unsupportive comments & vibes. It’s their stuff, not mine. -so it doesn’t happen again, calling out unsupportive comments for what they are (working on this one). Most people aren’t aware when they’re doing harm with their words. -Listening to positive birth stories and watching positive natural water birth videos Professional help: as I had mentioned before, I’ve been seeing Lindsey Ecker at @the.healing.power.of.nature to work on specific (cont’d in comments) See more

This was the most valuable lesson that I learned while studying live blood microscopy. Whether in a one on one session or on social media, you may have heard me go on about the terrain or environment of the body being key to health & healing. Dark field microscoy helps us to evaluate and track the state of your soil, whilst identifying how to improve it, either through your intake form/discussion and live blood evidence. This concept can help us understand why even ...some natural remedies work only temporarily or not at all. You can add all the fertilizer you want, but if your soil is contaminated with anti-freeze or bombarded with radiation, the vitality of the plant will refelct that. Success in wellness depends just as much or more on identifying appropriate positive input (ie. vitamins, tinctures, clean water) as it does on removing negative input (chemical, physical & emotional stressors). I’m taking names for my wait list for live blood & foot detox baths until Baby Del arrives, so please DM me if you’d like to secure current pricing and priority booking for my return in (hopefully) Spring 2021. In the interest of not over-committing, I’m only taking 4 more names for this list. If you’ve been dealing with health struggles for a while, it may be easy to forget this. Maybe it seems like your body has turned against you, or its you vs. your body. Why won’t it do what it’s supposed to do? Truth is, symptoms are a blessing. They are the body’s way of adapting to not-so-ideal circumstances, and they tell us that something is up! While the tools that I use in my practice live blood microscopy, pH testing, hair minral analysis and more are h...elpful, they are best used in combination with listening to and honouring what the body is trying to tell us. If we listen closely (sometimes with professional assistance) our bodies will communicate what is up, giving us the knowledge to provide our fearfully made selves what we need. That’s why I’m a big fan of working on the root cause in lieu of providing bandaids that mask tell-tale-symptoms. As someone who had become untrusting of my body in the past because it wouldn’t respond the way that I expected it to during my wellness struggles, I still need reminders like this. This scripture came to me while searching for birth time affirmations, and I’ll be leaning on it a reminder to that my wonderfully made self was perfectly designed to sustain life and to give birth. As I temporarily wrap Thrive-things up in anticipation of Baby Del, I’m excited to return to helping you understand your fearfully made body with the knowledge that I’ve gained duriing my time of refelction and learning in quarantine. I expect that to be sometime in the spring, but only time will tell. #youarefearfullyandwonderfullymade #wonderfullymade #fearfullymade #iamfearfullyandwonderfullymade #maternalnutrition #naturalpregnancy #covidpregnancy #naturalmama #kingsvilleontario #mykingsville #yqg #yqgstandsstrong #yqgbusiness #windsorontario #leamingtonontario #lasalleontario #tecumsehontario #amherstburgontario #wheatleyontario #chathamontario #ruthvenontario #harrowontario #essexontario #tilburyontario See more

Shoutout to my Oma for helping me with my post partum food prep! I read in #thefirstfortydays that beets are great for breast milk production and post partum healing. I *discovered* a clean living tip on my post partum food prep journey that I’d like to share with you. More on this home-made granola in a minute So. Parchment paper. I basically just learned the true benefits of this convenient little cooking hack that I bet a lot of you ar already wise to. To be honest, I thought that parchment paper and wax paper were the same thing and wondered why my food always stuck to wax paper (still not sure what wax paper is for)! Having... already upgraded to non toxic baking pans, I began quesiton the safety of this new convenience that was touching my food as it cooked. After a quick Google search, i learned that most parchment paper is bleached, which makes it a source of dioxins. Dioxins are nasty toxins that are hard to detox out of your body, and the heat used in baking could release them from the paper into your food. Do we have to give up this convenient cooking hack if we want to lower our dioxin exposure? Nope! I was able to find unbleached parchment paper on Amazon that also happens to come in pre-cut sheets (rolls are available as well). No more wrestling with the paper! Now, about this granola. The recipe is by @cookienadkate and it was so easy to throw together! What you see here is a double batch. I love being able to control the amount of sweetness, and to be able to customize my granola to optimize post partum nourishment. Of all the prep I’ve been doing, this may have been one of the easiest! What would you put in your granola if you had full creative control ? #kingsvilleontario #mykingsville #yqg #yqgstandsstrong #yqgbusiness #windsorontario #leamingtonontario #lasalleontario #tecumsehontario #amherstburgontario #wheatleyontario #chathamontario #ruthvenontario #harrowontario #essexontario #tilburyontario @ Leamington, Ontario

Satisfying spice restock Saturday! I try to replace my spices yearly in January, but morning sickness, but Covid Now that @bulkbarnfoods offers curbside pickup, I’ve finally been able to replace them. I wish I had recorded the difference in the intensity of colour (and aroma) from old to new!... This is not an ad, but I have to say that I love the flexibility and savings of buying herbs and spices in bulk. With a little extra of my go-to’s (hello rosemary & thyme) as backup, this lot cost about $10 (excluding the 3 up top)! What? Thats the price of like, ONE bottled spice at the grocery store. How many of us actually use that whole spice bottle in a year? And how reluctant would be to you toss your $10 bottle of cayenne even after it’s lost its POW? I also stocked up on some new-to-me herbs that are supposed to be helpful for lactation: fennel, fenugreek, caraway, coriander and dill. I’m going to try and incorporate these into my pre-post-partum food prep as much as possible. If, unlike me, you actually know how to cook with these herbs, please comment below. I need ideas! Also, on a scale of 1-OCD, how much does that missing part of the top row bother you? Now that social distancing rules are easing a bit, we may find ourselves reflecting back on our time in quarantine, as well as trying to look forward into an uncertain future. This quote stood out to me this morning as something that needed to be shared. I imagine that some of you may dread returning to a routine that left little time for you, others may be looking forward / hoping to get back to the once familiar schedule and resources of our regular scheduled programmin...g. For some, money, stress, or boredome has held you back from getting or staying in that ideal health routine. Some of you have shared that you are thriving during this time! Many of us truly fall somewhere in between. None of it is wrong. Regardless of what is going on around you, the best time to be the healthiest version of yourself is still now! It’s not pre Covid, it’s not quarantine, its not the new normal its now. That doesnt mean that you have to be in a perfect routine or eat a scientificaly based macro plan right this second (or ever). Just like its easy to become desensitized to the threat of Covid 19, the benefits of Vitamin C on the immune system have been touted for so long, that its easy to ignore its benefits as old news in favour of trendy super immune herbs and antioxidants. As we gear up for sunshine and re-entry intlo the world, its really, REALLY super-duper important for us to support our immune systems. The economy may be opening up, but we are not out of the woods with Covid 19. I just... listened to an incredible podcast by Rhonda Patrick of @foundmyfitness where she really breaks down the scientific studies the effects of Vitamin C on viral infections to heart disease and more. I highly recommend. Vitamin C is so critical for our health and so safe that I often recommend high doses of it with my clients. RDI’s are just not enough. I’ve made a blog post on how to find your unique optimal dose link in bio. Your optimal dose may be WAY higher than you expect, since emotional stress, chemical stress and physical stress all increase our need for this nutrient. And this nutrient is not just for winter! Victoria Day weekend gardening may boost our Vitamin D, but free radicals from UV rays (especially on that delicate winter skin) draws Vitamin C away from its function in our immune system in order utilize its antioxidant properties to deal with free radical damage. So when the sun comes out, we actually need more! So, how are we all feeling about the economy opening back up? I for one, am feeling uneasy about it. I understand the reasonign behing it, and I also think it’s too soon. I worry about the increased risk to the vulnerable people in my life. It bears repeating during this time of change. Our routines have been disrupted, and for many of us who had a water intake routine, that’s been turned upside down as well. Many of you have reported that water intake has been a challenge during social distancing! Perhaps you chugged a glass first thing on waking during your busy morning routine. Maybe you brought a big jug of water to work and vowed to finish it by the end of the day, or filled up your glass at the wate...r cooler when it was time to stretch your legs. I personally aimed to down 2 x 1L mason jars by the end of the work day, and counted evening water consumpton as bonus. This was easy because I was operating out of the same room all day. Now I bounce from room to room, and use a smaller glass because I don’t feel like carting around a 1L mason jar, especially when I’m already carting around 15 extra pounds and counting ! Your drink water cues may be different now, but the need to hydrate remains! Here are a few tips to help you get it in: 1. Set a goal. How do you know if you’re drinking enough if you don’t know how to drink? Scroll back to my posts from January on calculating your general water needs by your weight, diuretic consumption, and activity level. 2. Hey Siri! Yes, setting an alarm or reminder on your phone to drink water or reach certain water intake goasl throughout the day can be a great way to stay on track. Just don’t ignore her! 3. Water out, water in. Use your bathroom trips as your cue to drink water, AFTER you’ve washed your hands 4. Herbal tea counts. It may be May, but it doesn’t feel like it out there. Cozy up with a soothing herbal tea like you’re staying in on purpose! Exceptions: chamomile, dandelion and other herbal diuretic teas may increase your need for water just a little. I encourage you to do your research 5. Snack attack! If you’re feeling peckish, you may just be dehydrated. Use this as your cue to drink a glass of water. . . How has your water routine changed during social disrtancing? What kind of adaptations are you making to get it in during this change? Organic dairy: plain cow’s yogurt, goat cheddar, goat mozzarella, grass fed butter. 6. Luckily, living alone during this time does not have to mean eating alone. One solution is to book an online meal together with a friend. To take this one s...tep further, you could establish a standing dinner or breakfast date. Humans are social creatures and social eaters. This is why it’s so hard to do a cleanse when you have a full social schedule! Know someone who is living alone? Consider reaching out to book an online dinner date with them. Take rest Have you noticed that quarantine has caused a lot of us to go into productivity overdrive, or at least feel like we should? As if our productivity justifies our existence. I’m totally guilty of this in real life and in quarantine life, so like a lot of my suggestions, this one is for me too! Even my darling husband, who works 70h+ in his essential field, is feeling the pull to make this time count with so many goals. ... And while to-do’s are sometimes necessary, what if, instead of to-do lists, we made to-be lists? To be present. To be grateful. To be at peace. So many of us have been blessed with the opportunity to take rest. To take care of ourselves. To get present, grateful and peaceful. To stop and smell the , if you will. Big changes in routine + extra stress can be a recipe for disorganized eating patterns. Thankfully, some intention setting can go a long way help us thrive despite our present circumstances. One way to do this is having a yoga meal. Do you find yourself eating alone these days? Is your appetite up? Down? Not sure if you’re hungry or bored? Having a yoga meal is a great way to train yourself to tune into what your body is telling you by eating mindfully. Just like physic...al yoga, this practice activates the mind-body connection. It’s helpful for digestion, grounding and gratitude who could use more of that right now ? I first learned about the yoga meal through @yogalifewithgina’s yoga lifestyle program. It really opened up my eyes to just how fast I was racing through lunch at work, and the distractions that were keeping me from truly enjoying and assimilating my meal. These days, I find that yoga meals help me realize when I’ve become full, which can be difficult when pregnancy hunger cues make my eyes bigger than my stomach! Head over to Gina’s page for a step by step guide to the yoga meal. Have you noticed a change in your eating patterns during social distancing? What are some of the adjustments you’ve made or intend to make to support healthy eating habits in your new situation? #maidstoneontario #kingsvillestrong #southshorestrong #kingsvilleontario #mykingsville #yqg #yqgstandsstrong #yqgbusiness #windsorontario #leamingtonontario #lasalleontario #tecumsehontario #amherstburgontario #wheatleyontario #chathamontario #ruthvenontario #harrowontario #essexontario #tilburyontario See more

I’d like to share a little recipe with you that I’ve been using for a while with great results: Clean & Safe DIY Jet Dry I’ll spare you the details, but I’ve had all kinds of issues with our dishwasher not cleaning dishes, or making them dirty, to the point where I gave up on several occasions and just washed our dishes by hand for long periods of time. Once I figured out the appropriate settings and got on a dishwasher cleaning schedule (still think it’s so weird that we... have to wash the things that wash the things), my dishes started to come out decent, but this DIY Jet Dry made them sparkle! You’ll need: Ideally, 70% isopropyl alcohol (or vodka, when panic buying leaves the shelves empty of all disinfectants) White vinegar Citrus essential oil like lemon, lime, grapefruit or orange Instructions: Using a funnel (trust me), fill each bottle 50% with alcohol and 50% with vinegar Add 20 drops citrus oil Shake before squirting into the rinse aid compartment of your dishwasher. As with many things, I prefer to batch this to save time, so I make a bunch at once, and enjoy the fruits of my labour for months . What DIY projects have you been doing in quarantine? Share in the comments below or tag me in your DIY stories! PS: I got these ketchup squeeze bottles from Canadian Tire. Homework? I thought only the kids were home schooling? Remember those exercises that your physiotherapist or chiropractor gave you as between visits homework to help your progress? Did you do them? Did you feel better? Are you doing them still? When I first came to Corey at @irelandmpt, she made the connections between my various body complaints, (some of which had been going on for years) and gave me some simple stretches to do at home. I actually did them, and, han...d to God, I felt SO much better almost immediately. What do you think I did after that? Did I continue religiously with the exercises that made me feel like a million bucks? NOPE! Life got in the way and I dealt with my pain instead of doing the simple things I knew to do to eliminate it! Thankfully, I’ve gotten back to it daily and I must say that despite my growing baby belly, I feel great again! Do you have a list of physio or chiro prescribed exercises sitting somewhere in a drawer? You know what I’m going to say: has there ever been a better time to break them out!? Never had professionally prescribed exercises? @irelandmpt has been posting video tutorials on effective and accessible exercises and stretches to get you into tip top quarantine shape! Didn’t we just have a whole season of cold therapy? Look, I hate being cold, but after reading @dave.asprey’s book Head Strong: the Bulletproof plan to activate untapped brain energy to work smarter and think faster, I’m convinced that this kind of discomfort is worth it for the wellness payoff that it brings to the table. Dave explains that cold therapy has been shown to stimulate the creation of new, healthy cells, reduce inflammation, burn fat, increase energy, and ...makes for a better night’s sleep. While I’ve never been in a cryotherapy chamber per se, I’ve been blessed to experience a few spas that offer hot and cold (like almost freezing cold) pools. Let me tell you, it WAS invigorating. I question whether anyone who tells me that breath is the quickest way to connect mind and body may has submerged their bodies in 3 degrees Celsius. Now, I had to travel to Chicago and Iceland for these, sooo that’s out for now. So Carly, howwww exactly are we to do cold therapy in isolation? Hmm? You don’t have to necessarily sit in an ice bath or do cryotherapy to enjoy the benefits. A blast of cold water at the end of your shower can have a similar effect. Start with 10 seconds at the end of your shower and work your way up to 1 minute. The most important areas to hit are your face and your chest. Bonus: that cold blast on your hair will make it super shiny! One could always do a straight up ice bath. This is an area I have ZERO experience in so all I can say is power to ya and approach with caution! Have you tried cold therapy in any of the above ways? Latergram alert! Confession: I made this on Sunday and enjoyed it all week Check out my latest blog post in bio Social Distancing & Your Eating Habits: Tips to combat the effects of uncertainty & changes in routine during COVID-19 SO Who else always cooks way too much quinoa? Just me? ... Also, raw vegetables are my JAM lately . This is new-ish because I actually preferred them cooked before, and veggies were out for me completely in early pregnancy. Even in my 2nd trimester, it takes a lot of self talk to get the cooked ones in my belly. But raw, hand it over! Having slower days at home means we can prep less because we have all kinds of time to make nutritious food, right? For some, yes, but I’ve heard from many that packaged or low nutrient convenience or comfort foods are just too easy to grab, especially during these stressful times. If you find yourself in this pattern, prepping some make ahead salads or cut veggies/fruit (ie. healthy convenience food) can help for those times when you’re feeling snacky. This quinoa salad offers a convenient option once it’s prepped, and is a vehicle for ALL THE VEGGIES! Ingredients in this one: Tri colour quinoa (don’t trust me for amounts) @muccifarms Tomato & Cucumber Carrots Broccoli @annasflowers Basil (to be added... I needed to revive it first!) I’ve said it once before and I’ll say it again: pH balance is foundational to good health, and anything that gets measured gets managed! *I need to interrupt the flow of this post to point out something very important* Biomed Basic Tabs, the main alkalizing supplement that I use with my clients lists decrease acute inflammatory response as one of its main benefits. According to information forwarded to me, triggering an acute inflammatory response is what makes Covid-1...9 so dangerous. I have no way to verify this info, but I found this important to share. Anything that can help lower inflammation at this time is important, including alkalizing! I have Basic Tabs available for sale via porch pick up or drop off. Back to the flow./. The pH of your urine (and saliva) change as the pH in your tissues changes. Homeostasis dictates that when your body is dealing with excess acidity, your output (read: urine) will reflect this. If your body is dealing with excess alkalinity, the same thing happens. pH strips (available at @spartanleamingtonkingsville) can be used to test your urine so you can see where you are on the acid/alkaline scale. When you pee on the strip, the colours change. Match the colour to the chart provided, and that’s your urinary pH. Optimal pH range for healing and maintaining wellness is 7-8. Since the blood needs to be slightly alkaline (remember, 7.35-7.45), a urine output that approximates this ensures that the body won’t have to steal minerals from the tissues, thus acidifying them (leaving them susceptible to disease) in order to maintain homeostasis in the blood. pH balanced tissues are happy tissues #phbalance #acidbasebalance #alkalize #kingsvilleontario #mykingsville #yqg #yqgbusiness #windsorontario #leamingtonontario #lasalleontario #tecumsehontario #amherstburgontario #wheatleyontario #chathamontario #ruthvenontario #harrowontario #essexontario #tilburyontario #detroit @ Leamington, Ontario See more

Pre cooked quinoa with almond milk, arrowroot flour, hemp hearts, ground flax, cinnamon, and blueberries. The whole concoction is drizzled with maple syrup. Thank you to everyone who joined us last night for @jemaesthetics #virtualsoulschool. Missed it? The replay link is available through @jemaesthetics, and there’s still the option to join us for the next 2 Monday’s! Last night, the dominant emotion reported was stress/anxiety/overwhelm/mixed feelings. If you’re feeling any of these ways, just know that you’re not alone. I’ll do my best to keep offering some relaxation solutions from my areas of experience, including the... following: Castor oil packs are a great way to help your body relax! The fuzzy warm feeling of the flannel against your tummy helps to activate the parasympathetic nervous system, which tells your body it’s safe to rest and digest. This can be a relief for anyone experiencing increased anxiety and stress related constipation. Castor oil packs also get your lymph system moving and increases white blood cells a great immune boost when our bodies need it most! Finally, castor oil packs support liver detox, which can help with clearer skin, easier periods, enhanced fertility, increased energy and more. What’s best is this practice is so safe you can do it every day! Some people even leave theirs on overnight. If you don’t have a Queen of Thrones castor oil pack (I have 1 left + 2 small castor oils and will not be restocking until further notice... dm if you’re interested) you can do it the old fashioned way: -Soak a piece of wool or cotton flannel in castor oil. -Lay it over your liver (between rib cage and belly button, slightly to the right) -Saran wrap your torso to keep the pack in place. -Throw on an old t shirt -Place a hot water bottle (no heated blankets) over the pack. -Lay back and relax for 1-10h (beginners start with 1h and work your way up) -Remove Saran Wrap and flannel. Wash your belly with warm soap & water Castor oil packs should not be used during pregnancy or during active heavy menstrual bleeding. #queenofthrones #kingsvilleontario #mykingsville #yqg #windsorontario #leamingtonontario #lasalleontario #tecumsehontario #amherstburgontario #wheatleyontario #chathamontario #ruthvenontario #harrowontario #essexontario @ Tecumseh, Ontario See more

Good morning 5 star dessert-breakfast! On the menu this morning is coconut key lime panna cotta, topped with a raspberry chia key lime compote and granola I whipped up this panna cotta last night using @runningtothekitchen’s recipe. I’ve been craving key lime and have been staring at a bag of these little citrus fruits on my counter all week wondering what to do with them! See my story for the other flavours that I cranked out last night whilst in making-mode. ... This recipe is dairy free, with a base of full fat coconut milk (a source of monolauric acid, which is antiviral). I used erythritol to sweeten (no immune busting sugars here), and grass fed beef gelatin to make it firm up. As has been the buzz in wellness circles, collagen and gelatin are great for your connective tissue, including joints, ligaments, and skin (bye wrinkles; stretch marks, you are not welcome here). The compote is just a quick mixture of frozen raspberries, a touch of honey, chia seeds, and juice of 1 key lime in a pan over the stove. I cooked it with my Iron Fish, which is a fish shaped chunk of iron that infuses the mineral into liquid recipes when cooked together. Kind of like an iron bay leaf, but reusable. Once it cooled (ish) I spooned it ever over and around the panna cotta. Then I topped it with granola to make it more breakfasty. The best thing about this gourmet meal is that I get to eat it in my pjs (can’t do that at Nero’s)! The only thing missing here is company... and a mimosa What kinds of foods have you been making now that time isn’t a thing ? When I was working as a Licensed Optician, I advised patients on this effective yet simple treatment almost daily. Hot compresses for the eyes are used to treat dry eye, styes, and more, but you don’t need to have an eye condition to enjoy the relaxing benefits What you need Specialized compresses are sold by Opticians and Optometrists. Eye bags used and sold at yoga studios also work great, as does a hot wash cloth.... How to Specialized compress or yoga eye bag: Heat up the unit in the microwave for 29 seconds to 1 minute, depending on the size ofthe unit, OR heat it up in a clean pan in the oven under very close supervision. Wash cloth: run the tap on hot until the water is, well, hot. Soak the wash cloth, then wring it out. All compresses: CAUTION! HOTThe skin around our eyes is super delicat, so wait for your compress to cool to an appropriate temperature. Give it a quick test on your eyes. Too hot? Give it a few more seconds. Just right? Lay back and relax for about 5 minutes. No peeking If the compress worked, you should find that your vision is blurry when you take it off and open your eyes. No need to panic! This is caused by the heat from the compress opening up the lubricating glands of your eyelids (meibomian glands) that provide the oily layer of your tears. This should clear up in a few minutes. Hot compresses can be used as often as daily. A few words of caution: Be careful if you deal with any eye inflammation, as the heat can exasperate this. Always take out your contacts first. Anyone with extreme dry eye should avoid getting tap water near their eyes, so no hot wash cloths if that’s you. Wait! Hear me out! I promise, I’m not calling for a hiatus on personal hygiene. What I AM suggesting, is that this is a great time to break the habit of using conventional deodorants/antiperspirants, and switch to a more natural option. Many of us are not going to work, and not hanging around people other than our immediate family members (thankfully, they’ll still love you if you stink for a little while), so who cares if we smell a little more natural! I’ve noticed t...hat a lot of my clients have either tried natural deodorant and turned back due to stink, or are wary of trying it in the first place. It can be tough to switch because we usually smell WORSE at first because our poor clogged up lymph nodes are suddenly free and playing catch-up. Like a stinky bounce back effect! Why not use this time to get over the smelly hump? To help your pits detox quickly, try exfoliating in the shower, and using a clay face mask under your arms 1-3 times per week. Perhaps it’s time to dig up that forgotten natural deodorant, whip up an impromptu batch using household ingredients (recipe below), or just go without! I find that without the stress of being on at work and in social situations, that I have no need for deodorant these days! Quick DIY Deodorant Coconut oil Baking soda Tea tree oil Any other appropriate essential oil(s) I’m not big on measurements. Just play with the ratios until it looks right, and keep a little jar of your new natural deodorant in the bathroom. Apply a little bit with your fingers after showering, wait a minute or so for it to soak in before getting dressed, and go on with your day! Dry brushing is a great way to move and drain your lymphatic system, especially for those of us who find ourselves more sedentary for parts of the day than we were pre-pandemic. The lymphatic system is like our water circulatory system, except it doesn’t have a pump like the cardiac system. Ideally, muscles contracting regularly are the pump. A little extra help from skin brushing can be very beneficial to help lymph fluid get to where it needs to go! Keeping the lymph fl...uid moving around is critical for your immune system, as it transports white blood cells. At the risk of sounding like a broken record, it’s never been more important to take care of your immune system! Keeping your lymph system in order can also help with daily detox, and combat swelling & water retention. How to: 1. Get naked. 2. Starting at your extremities and working toward your heart, brush in long gentle strokes. 3. Continue for anywhere from 5-15 minutes. 4. Hop in the shower and rinse off those loosened up skin cells oh ya, dry brushing is exfoliating! Talk about a multitasker! 5. Hop out of the shower and moisturize your immune boosted, de-puffed, exfoliated self! Confession: I’ve always kinda put off dry brushing because I found it irritating to my skin. Isn’t it nice to have extra time to work on those *things* we’ve been putting off? I’ve been filling mine with a LOT of self care. I thought I’d start sharing some healthy habits that tend to fall by the wayside when our lives are insanely busy not so for many of us now! Time to get back to healthy habits! Let’s start with an easy one: flossing! As I’ve learned from @embracedentalhygiene, flossing is a great way to keep the gums healthy by stimulating blood flow, and ...of course to get bacteria colonies and bacteria food out from between our teeth (Jen please feel free to chime in). Some of the most concerning live blood samples that I’ve posted have been from people dealing with dental infections. During this time where we’re trying to stay as far apart as possible, you don’t want be in a situation where a dentist has to have their hands in your mouth and neither does the dentist, I bet! Plus, keeping your mouth clean will free up your immune system for more important jobs, say, dealing with a global pandemic? A word of caution for this special time that we’re in: wash your hands before and after brushing & flossing! If you’re like me (a year ago before Jen at @embracedentalhygiene truth explained the mouth-body connection to me), you may have a backlog of that free floss that the dentist gives out! Large, concentrated doses of sugar suppresses your immune system for a number of hours by slowing down your neutrophils. Neutrophils are a type of white blood cell. Hi ! I believe it is my duty to inform you of the steps being taken to protect the community here at Thrive. As you all know, the concern as to the potential effect of the COVID-19 in our country is rising daily. I urge you all to stay informed and check on the following websites for accurate details and up to date information. www.wechu.org www.cdc.gov ... Here are some of the steps being taken to keep the community safe in addition to OSHA practices already in place*: -Offering phone or web appointments (call for details) -Daily deep cleaning (which includes sanitizing all surfaces, door handles, point of sale, etc.) -Providing hand sanitizer upon entrance -I will cancel appointments if I have symptoms of being unwell, or if I come into contact with someone who either has symptoms or has travelled within the past 14 days. -I am following direction from our local health unit, staying informed and acting responsibly. -No cancellation fees will be charged during this time. Should you find yourself feeling unwell, having been in contact with someone who is feeling unwell, or have travelled in the past 14 days, you may cancel at any time without consequence. -As always, leaving a buffer of time between appointments so that only one client is in the space at one time. -Providing single use towels for hand drying in the restroom. -Boosting the germ fighting power of soap provided in the rest room with essential oils. -Increasing air flow (opening windows). Some things you can do to help: -Cancel your appointment if you are feeling unwell, have been in contact with someone who is feeling unwell, or have travelled in the past 14 days. Please do so with as much notice as possible. -Sanitize your hands upon entering and when leaving Thrive -Remember that we are all in this together for the greater good. We must work together to help limit the severity of this virus in our community. By continually monitoring and supporting your health, you are giving yourself the tools to create a stronger and more resilient body, which is arguably more critical now than ever. Yours in health, Carly Del Ciancio

As many of us are (justifiably) reconsidering going out into the world, but if social distancing and hand washing fails is, it may be comforting to know there are many immune boosters available to you in your own home! Here are 6 Immune boosters you probably don’t need to leave the house for: 1. Deep breathing. We all know that stress can make us more susceptible to illness, and this current situation is adding to just about everyone’s stress. The production of cortisol, a... stress hormone, requires Vitamin C. This shuttles crucial Vitamin C away from our immune system, leaving us open to infection. A few minutes of deep belly breathing daily can activate your parasympathetic nervous system, essentially telling your body all is well, we don’t need to stress, which can spare energy and Vit C for your immune cells. Great for kiddos and adults alike! 2. Humidity. Dry air dries out our mucous membranes, which are our first defence against invaders. Keeping the air moist by filling your humidifier regularly, placing damp wash cloths over heating vents, or placing a pot of water on the radiator can help. For bonus points, add germ fighting essential oils like the ones @the.healing.power.of.nature recently posted about. 3. Hydration. No amount of outside humidity will hydrate mucous membranes if you’re dehydrated on the inside. This is a great time to work on water intake. Adequate hydration ensures your lymphatic system keeps flowing, which shuttles your immune cells to where they need to do. Do you want a fast immune shuttle or a sluggish one? Drink up! 4. Garlic. This fragrant herb is found in almost every kitchens. Fresh and raw is best if you want to take advantage of the antibacterial and antiviral properties of garlic. Wait 5 minutes after crushing a fresh clove before adding it to just about any savoury dish. This allows the active immune boosting ingredient, allicin, to develop so you get the biggest immune bang for your buck! Allicin is only stable for a few hours, so eat up and don’t forget the breath mints! #5 & 6 are in the comments below See more

Morning sunshine! In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, I’m going to shift my focus to bringing you tips and recipes on immune support, starting with this little concoction I whipped up just now! This teeny shot is packed with immune boosting ingredients: fresh ginger juice, raw honey, fresh lemon & ground tumeric.... I made it by grating the ginger into a bowl, added honey, a squeeze of lemon (sorry peeps I don’t measure these tings) and a few tbsp of warm water. I then transferred the mixture to a nut milk bag (coffee filter will do) and squeezed it into the shot glass. Added a teeny bit of tumeric (you can add more, I’m being careful due to Baby Del ), paused for a pic, then took it back! Ginger, tumeric, and lemon contain anti inflammatory properties. Since constant inflammation in the body can wear out our immune system, taking steps to fight it now will allow your immune system the rest it needs to step up to the plate when needed. Lemon also brings a boost of vitamin C, which is so crucial for our immune system, especially during times of stress. Honey has been long known for its antibacterial properties, and it shows promise in some studies as an anti-viral . Honey coats and soothes mucous membranes, helping keep them in tact for optimal immune function. Keep an eye out for tomorrow’s post: Immune boosters you probably don’t need to leave the house for. #kingsvilleontario #mykingsville #yqg #yqgbusiness #windsorontario #leamingtonontario #lasalleontario #tecumsehontario #amherstburgontario #wheatleyontario #chathamontario #ruthvenontario #harrowontario #essexontario #tilburyontario #detroit See more

Sometimes, it’s a struggle to balance the pH through diet alone. When diet isn’t enough, here are some of my go-to’s for pH balancing. 1. Juice Plus: concentrated vegetable juice, grown without pesticides, with good farming practices. Taken in capsule or (yummy) gummy form, this whole food supplement helps us get closer to our 10-a-day alkalizing vegetable intake! Plus, it provides enzymes, phytonutrients, antioxidants and more! Available through @thriveliveblood 2. ...Basic tabs: This s a serious alkalizer. I tend to break this out when I want to super alkalize the body over a short period of time. This is usually a short term approach, followed by maintenance via diet or greens supplement like Juice Plus. Also doubles as an antacid. Available through @thriveliveblood and @spartannutritionleamington. Please see me for instructions before starting. 3. Whole Earth and Sea Deep Ocean minerals: use these drops to get a daily boost of alkalizing minerals through your water or other beverages. Great for when we need a little bit of help to get pH balanced or for maintenance. Available at @spartannutritionleamington And that wraps up this month’s Healthiest Year Ever topic of pH balance although, I’m never really done talking about alkalizing! In March, I’ll be emitting some information about our modern technology that’s sure to be buzzworthy. Any guesses on what March’s topic might be? I eat an alkalizing diet. Why is my pH still acidic? This happens sometimes, and there are a few possible answers to the why. 1. pH can respond very slowly to diet because our food supply just isn’t as rich in alkalizing minerals as it used to be (think depleted soils and hydroponically grown vegetables). ... 2. Hidden acidifying components in the diet (caffeine, alcohol, sugar, pharmaceuticals & more). 3. Stress. Yes, stress is totally acidifying! 4. Underlying imbalances that are best discovered & discussed one on one. So what’s an acidic girl or guy to do? Eat organic produce. Organic farming practices ensure proper treatment of soil for more mineral rich fruits and vegetables. Find those hidden sources of acidifying foods/drinks in your diet (see link in bio for alkalizing and acidifying foods list) Breathe! Stress is acidifying because we forget to breathe out acidic carbon dioxide effectively when we’re stressed. Enlist a qualified wellness practitioner to help you investigate the underlying causes of pH imbalance. Cheat! Use targeted supplementation to give you a leg up on alkalizing (more on this in the next post). #kingsvilleontario #mykingsville #yqg #yqgbusiness #windsorontario #leamingtonontario #lasalleontario #tecumsehontario #amherstburgontario #wheatleyontario #chathamontario #ruthvenontario #harrowontario #essexontario #tilburyontario #detroit

pH imbalance & fungus. Can you spot the signs of fungus in this sample? The suspected fungus isn’t actually IN the blood, rather, these blood conditional point to fungus in the gut or tissues. We all have fungus in our bodies, but an acidic environment (+ other factors) can allow it it to grow out of control and cause symptoms like brain fog, sugar cravings, acne, yeast infections, and a whole host of digestive complaints. Left unchecked, fungal overgrowth can conge...st the liver, contribute to hormonal imbalances, tax the adrenal glands. If you suspect you’re dealing with excess fungus or candida, the best thing you can do right now is to get alkalized! Balance It happens when the body gets what it needs to easily stay in homeostasis. When it has to fight too hard to stay in homeostasis, it produces symptoms, which can eventually get labelled as disease. Giving your system what it needs to stay pH balanced (slightly alkaline) is a big factor in wellness. It’s why I test pH at every visit.... Diet is arguably the most important factor in pH balance. I’ve just posted a breakdown of acidifying and alkalizing foods on the Thrive blog (link in bio). Some of them may surprise you .
