At the darkest time of year, we all look for HOPE. The STARS (generously brought to us by the Night Sky) bring us out of ourselves and into something greater. That's what the NORTH Shield is all about. Thank you to Joe Craig for this final poster in our Keep It Wild Mission Series. We invite you to take on one or all of these challenges with your friends and family. This month they feature: Stars, Darkness, Trees, Elders, Winter Animals, Self-Reliance, Love & forgiveness, and... more! You can find the WHOLE SERIES of posters on our website: https://www.thrivingroots.org/get-invol/adventures-at-home/ Want to use the posters for your own educational programming? Please consider making a donation to Thriving Roots! Contact [email protected] for details.
The dark season is here: cold, wet, quiet and rainy - it's the most natural time to go inward, reflect on the past, tend our inner fires and help others do the same. Here is an inspiring gift from Thriving Roots Wilderness School to help you make the most of the dark times. This is Poster 7 of our Keep It Wild Mission Series, "Northwest." Stay tuned for our final poster, "North" coming soon! A huge thank you to Joe Craig - the artist behind this important work.
What an awesome first week of programs in Victoria and the Cowichan valley! Frog catching, animal tracking, storytelling, games and more! So grateful for the families who have joined us this year and excited for the adventures ahead. Thoughts and prayers to the forests and their precious inhabitants down south. May the smoke remind us we are all connected.
Looking for alternatives to online learning this school year? NOW is the time for OUTDOOR Education! One week left to register for our cutting edge WOLF Kids Program in Victoria, BC. Ditch the screen this Fall and join us 3 days per week in a private forested location with a pond, fire pits and a cozy yurt. Monday - Wednesday we'll be directly learning from nature: playing and adventuring in forests and ponds, discovering our passions, learning to carve wood, tend fires, eat... wild plants, build shelters, keep bees, and so much more! CAUTION: Children will return from program with sparkling eyes, epic stories, exuberant joy and soggy socks. REGISTRATION CLOSES JULY 31st! Sign up today! https://www.thrivingroots.org/programs/wolf-kids-victoria/
Woah! What an inspiration! Teens are so much more capable than we think they are. When we hold them back from adventure, from proving themselves through risk, they find it elsewhere and often in negative ways. This teen is such a great example. Know a teen who is longing for positive outdoor adventure and mentoring? Check out our Wild and Alive Teen Expedition Program with Thriving Roots! Www.thrivingroots.org
This came out today. Straight from my heart. I don't usually share my thoughts like this so publicly, but it seems like it's time... These last few months have stirred a lot up societal systems broken down, core beliefs challenged and our day-to-day routines halted and even made threatening: our food security, education, justice system, identities attached to our jobs, our collective power and freedoms. Racial inequalities and systemic racism have been dramatically highligh...Continue reading
