My spouse and my child are suffering as we stand in solidarity with our African American brothers to decry centuries of systematic racism and injustice, oppression and detestable cruelty. Mr George Floyd died because too many businesses and governments are silent when black people are slaughtered. Our collective silence has been so long and so pronounced that the untenable din of hate, bigotry and anti-black racism makes my entire body ache.... Mr. George Floyd was murdered in cold blood. I and my company (Sovereign Dental) stand firmly against oppression and racism. We painfully mourn the death of Mr George Floyd, and all martyrs before him that have died at the hand of the systematic anti-black racism endemic to the United States of America. The Team @ Sovereign Dental would like to take the opportunity to provide an update on the COVID-19 pandemic and what it currently means for our patients. As you know by now, our office has been closed to all routine dentistry following strong recommendation from the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario (RCDSO), the regulatory body of dentistry in Ontario. With the recent declaration from the W.H.O. regarding the Coronavirus now being described as a pandemic and Heath Minister Patty Hajdu’s announcement that the COVID-19 outbreak is a national emergency and crisis the Sovereign Dental Team has decided to pause all non-emergency dental treatment temporarily. In a press release today, Medical Officer of Health with the Thunder Bay District Health Unit, Dr. Janet DeMille, discussed the importance of broader community measures be...ing taken with respect to closing workplaces and schools. At the time of this release there are NO confirmed or presumptive coronavirus cases in Thunder Bay. We are confident in our infection control policies and procedures and this decision was made as a proactive and preventive measure only to contribute to the containment efforts and are done with an entirely abundance of precaution. For those patients who require emergency dental care please call our emergency line @ 807-372-1414 We apologize for the inconvenience, and hope you know, we have considered at great length how to best support the community of Thunder Bay and surrounding areas with broader community measures to contain the spread of this disease rather than being reactive to a possible local outbreak.
