Were you playing at Canada Games Complex last Friday between 7 and 9:30pm? If so, it's possible you were exposed to COVID-19. If you're feeling symptomatic, please contact the TBDHU at 625-5900 to arrange for testing!
Probably to the surprise of no one, this year's much loved Balmoral Open has had to be postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The organizing committee is super bummed about this as the community and camaraderie that develops around this tourney is always a special thing each year. We hope that, possibly, somehow, maybe, who knows, let's pray - there could be some kind of tourney in the 2020-2021 season but this remains to be seen. Of course we will keep everyone apprised of... this if any such plans develop! If you've got any questions, do drop an email to [email protected] or ask in the comments below! Thanks for understanding! CC: Sunset Country Squash Club (Fort Frances) Sunset Country Squash Club (Fort Frances) Winnipeg Squash Racquet Club
Canada Games Complex squash courts aren't QUITE as slick as these ones.... but the new paint job and sanding has done wonders and you can ALMOST imagine playing in front of the pyramids now. Almost ;)
The Canada Games Complex is opening back up September 23rd which means... SQUASH! Please note the screening procedure below that will be required upon entry into the facility. Looking forward to seeing you out on the courts again soon!
Junior Squash is BACK! Love to see new players out and old players returning to the game with enthusiasm to play! Here's to a fun and *slightly adjusted* squash season at Canada Games Complex!
It's been a while but we've got some great news! Canada Games Complex is reopening and that means.... JUNIOR SQUASH IS BACK! Lessons don't start until October 17th and we will be carrying out strict COVID-19 safety protocols... but it's BACK! And that's exciting news!... Here are the deets: Beginners 9:30-10:20am @ $44.57 Intermediate/Advance - 10:30-11:20am @ $44.57 Interested in having your child(ren) sign up? Registration opens tomorrow (Thurs Sept 17) by calling 625-8463. Spots are limited so don't delay!
So the big question is: have you seen the courts lately?!? Wow! Huge shout out to the Canada Games Complex for the painting, sanding and general fixing up of all four courts! PS - Both Junior Squash and Court Jesters Squash League is still open for registration. The league will begin play next week and Jrs is expected to start October 17th! Call 625-8463 to register today!
Hey everyone! Take a few mins to help Squash Ontario by filling out this survey! You've got 3 days.... And you could win a sweet racquet! Here's the link: https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx
Hey everyone! Remember squash? Your favourite pastime? You know, that activity you always brag about as being ranked the best sport for overall fitness? The thing you used to look forward to playing while sitting in your office daydreaming all day? That activity that fosters awesome community, healthy competition, both physical and character development.... and giant pools of sweat after long sessions of playing it? Yeah, we remember it, too. ...Sigh... It looks like Cana...da Games Complex might open back up in September. If so, it could be go-time for squash! (And to help speed things up, please keep physical distancing and wearing a mask. The sooner we eradicate this pesky virus, the sooner we get to hit the courts again!)
Well, that settles it..... no more excuses for not getting active!
Psssst..... you better believe the Court Jesters squash league is happening this season (adhering to strict COVID-19 guidelines, of course). Play begins October 1st. Registration is now open. Contact Alexa at [email protected] or call 625-8463.
ICYMI - Round 2 of Super Squash Saturday between Elias and Power. Another great match worth your time!
Everyone's sitting at home daydreaming about hitting the courts, we know, we know... And unfortunately, the April edition of Squash Player Magazine isn't going to relieve that itch, but at least you can be distracted with some fantastic articles, including a feature on one of the best, New Zealand's Paul Coll! Lots of great content in here - take a read: http://edition.pagesuite-professional.co.uk//production/de
If you're looking for some fun times, great banter with the commentators, and seeing old man Powers run around the court, I've got JUSSSSST the thing.... Check out this match from this past weekend.
Appreciate the shout out and recognition of the Thunder Bay Squash community - check out the latest article from Squash Ontario and SHARE, SHARE, SHARE! https://www.squashontario.com//we-the-north-thunder-bay-sq?
Ooooooh these hoodies look SLICK! They're in and ready for pick up on our doorstep! If you have ordered one of these bad boys for the Silver Fox tourney (which has been postponed, not cancelled, and hence why these shirts are still relevant and legit and awesome) send us a note and we'll let you know how to get yours! Thanks!
We could definitely use a few certified refs for our local tourneys... Any takers.!?
Grabbed this from @squashplays and had to laugh - how many feel they are in this boat right now?! #WeMissSquash
This'll keep you busy and in squash shape while we maintain our social distancing...
We're super bummed that the Silver Fox Squash Cancer Charity Tournament has to be postponed due to COVID-19. We get it, sure, but we're bummed. This year we had almost 80 registrants - which is the most we've had in many, many years. A number of players were coming from out of town, too, which was great! We're hoping, if things resolve with the current situation, to maaaaaaaaaybe have this tournament some time between May and October! No guarantees, obviously, but that's th...e hope. Anyway, if you're one of those who registered - thanks for supporting this tournament! Stay tuned for any updates over the next while as we wait for the future to unfold! In the mean time, stay tuned to Thunder Bay District Health Unit for the latest info on COVID-19 and keep washing your hands and keeping your distance ;)
One more week of Junior Squash! Get those lunges in now! It's been a great term with an average of ~15 kids out each week. Lots of great learning, coaching and having fun on the courts every Saturday morning! If your kiddos are part of the Junior program and enjoy coming out each week, encourage them to spread the love and tell their friends - it's the best way to grow the sport in the region! Remember: March 14th is the last Saturday of Junior Squash but that doesn't mean squash is over. The courts are always available for booking and probably all of your coaches are willing to get out and hit if you ask 'em!
And the winner of the Silver Fox Squash Cancer Early Bird Draw for $100 in ESSO Gas cards goes to....

A recent incident with a pro squash player getting smacked in the eye with a ball opens up the age-old debate on goggles. It is mandatory for juniors to be wearing goggles as they step on the courts at Canada Games Complex but what do you think about making it mandatory for all players? https://squashmad.com//daryl-selbys-freak-eye-injury-spar/
