There can be a lot of colour variation between the honey of different flowers all of which combine to make our wildflower honey. One of my favourites to spot in the hive this time of year is Purple Loostrife (photo 2). Despite its name and flower colour the honey and pollen the bees collect is green! Those green puddles the bees are licking up is Purple Loosetrife honey (not radioactive slime) and if you zoom in on the bee flying to the flowers you’ll see green pollen on her ...legs. The roadsides are full of this invasive plant in bloom right now. If you stop and take a look you’ll be sure to see all sorts of pollinators taking in the green of these purple flowers. #ontariohoney #thurstonhoneybeeco #wildflowerhoney #localhoney
