Q. I am selling my manufactured home and have been deferring my property taxes. Do you just pay the taxes out of my sale proceeds like a mortgage? A. No. If there is a tax deferment on a manufactured home, the taxes must be paid out in full and the lien removed from the Personal Property Registry before the sale can complete. Ensure that you make the payment at least 2-3 weeks before your completion date to ensure that the lien will be removed in time.

Q. My parents are getting quite elderly and I have powers of attorney for them so that I can pay their bills and help make their medical decisions if necessary. Is there anything else I should be getting them to do before they end up ill or come down with dementia? A. I’m glad to hear that you have powers of attorney in place, although those documents are not going to allow you to assist them in making medical decisions. The Powers of Attorney will allow... you to look after their legal and financial matters anything (other than a Will) that needs a signature. If they want you to be able to assist them in making personal or health care decisions, they would need to appoint you as a Representative under a Representation Agreement. May 19, 2020 - Following consultation with the British Columbia Notaries Association and other groups, the Provincial Government has today announced that legal professionals can ‘remotely witness signatures’ of clients unable to attend a Notaries office in person. These measures relate to Wills, Enduring Powers of Attorney, and Representation Agreements, and will help ensure the public have continued access to legal support in order to ensure their wishes are carried out. Th...e ongoing public health crisis have people taking stock of how prepared they would be if they contracted a serious illness. These measures now allow Notaries across British Columbia to utilize video conferencing services to reach out and ensure vulnerable members of the public or those in care can be reached. In person services and legal representation still remain available. Notaries provide a provincially designated essential service and have adapted their offices and services to help keep their clients, community, staff and themselves safe.
