Hi Folks Sorry to catch you in the off-hours, but Natalie and I have a favour to ask...We’re preparing. care package for a local homeless man, and we need some help... Tomorrow afternoon, the man will be receiving one of our hot turkey take-out lunches, and a backpack stuffed with things like juice boxes and bottled water, portable foods like granola bars, cookies, pudding cups and applesauce, clean, dry socks, a warm toque, a warm winter coat and a sweater, and a nice warm b...lanket. But neither Natalie nor I have an extra pair of men’s gloves or mittens that we can donate to the cause. If anyone who is visiting the Centre tomorrow or who is attending our turkey lunch has a large pair of warm, good-quality gloves or mittens that would fit a large male hand, please bring them and we will add them to our collection of items. That said, if anyone has any items similar to the above that they’d like to contribute, please bring them. If we get too many items to fit in the backpack we’re giving, the excess will go to the local Salvation Army. This small donation won’t change this gentleman’s life but it may make his days and nights a bit more pleasant. If you can help us with our little mission, we’d be most appreciative.

Good day, everyone Well, my in box was absolutely crammed this morning with folks weighing in on yesterday's two questions. I'm not going to regurgitate the responses I received, but I will say that every last one of you who cared to respond (and there were lots), have indicated that you're not only planning to get the vaccine when it's available, you're excited about it! The majority of folks who responded yesterday also indicated that, despite our good intentions, they feel... we're headed for at least a short period of total lockdown once again, as virus numbers continue to escalate and some people disregard the warnings and go about Christmas festivities as they always have. I also received a lot of feedback on our Fitness teleconference call that was held earlier this week, and all of it was positive, which makes me so glad that we applied for and received that grant. I'm glad everyone enjoyed getting to hear each others' voices, and there were requests to do it again after Christmas, which we surely will. We're actively working on arranging a similar call for members of our Craft Group, which we hope to hold on Jan. 11 at 1 pm, so stay tuned for details of that if you're a member of our crafters and would like to call in for that. So, let's talk about ridiculous injuries... When I woke up this morning around 4 am, I was immediately aware that I must've slept in a funny position because my back told me so. So, before heading back to bed, I slapped on my portable TENS machine and climbed under the covers, placing the control box on the sheets beside me. About 15 minutes later and feeling chilled, I yanked the covers up around my neck, and in the process launched the plastic control box directly into my right eye, and hard. It hurt, and my eye started watering profusely, but I couldn't help laugh about it. I was laying there thinking that something this ridiculous could only happen to me... I was relieved when I got up and found I didn't have a black eye (and a bit surprised, frankly), but then I got thinking about other ridiculous injuries I've had over the years. For example I once pinched my sciatic nerve while vacuuming. VACUUMING. Not saving a runaway baby carriage from careening into traffic or rescuing a cat from a tree, but VACUUMING. The only broken bone I've ever had in my life was obtained by opening my freezer. I opened the door of the freezer to grab something and I somehow dislodged a can of frozen orange juice which fell squarely on the top of my bare foot, breaking my second toe at the base. So tell me - what ridiculous ways have you guys injured yourselves over the years? Feel free to share your stories - and know, I will be changing names to protect your privacy! Tomorrow is turkey lunch day, so I look forward to seeing some of you then! Until then have a great day! See more

Hi Folks Well, Tuesdays have been pretty quiet since we had to postpone our yoga classes, so today Natalie and I are using some of the time for some professional development! The OACAO has been fantastic throughout the pandemic for hosting free webinars and training of all kinds, and today Natalie and I have registered for a one-hour webinar all about the importance of mental health and wellbeing during the pandemic. I'm sure this will be very informative and interesting. Dur...ing the summer I took all kinds of training including a Covid-19 education course that covered the signs, symptoms and the best ways to prevent and manage covid in the workplace. I also got my SmartServe license and took part in several webinars about the impact of the pandemic for non-profit organizations, the legal ramifications of covid for registered charities and how to engage and involve members when in lockdown. So I guess one of the positive things to come out of this ordeal is that I'm now more educated about things! So just a final reminder about tomorrow morning's ZOOM coffee break at 10 am. Now you can participate with us by video using the ZOOM app, or by telephone! To join on your tablet or smartphone by using the app, please follow the link below: https://zoom.us/j/5319201110 Meeting ID: 531 920 1110 Passcode: 002520 To join our group chat via your landline or cellular phone, dial 1-855 703 8985 and enter the following meeting ID when prompted: 531 920 1110# If prompted, enter the following passcode: 002520 We'd love to see (or hear) some new folks join us, so please take advantage of our call-in option. Every week we chew the fat on a range of topics from current events to how we're preparing for Christmas. ZOOM coffee break is a fun, casual way to meet up with other folks while staying home and staying safe. Please join us! Teleconferencing capability with ZOOM has been funded by the Government of Canada's COVID-19 Emergency Community Support Fund, and Administered through the United Way Oxford. Have a great Tuesday, folks!
