Last week, Adopt4Life, the Adoption Council of Canada and Western University reunited in Ottawa for the third time to continue to bring awareness to the urgent ...need for a #TimetoAttach. The panel of experts, composed of Carolyn McLeod, Professor and Chair of Philosophy at Western, Cathy Murphy, Executive Director at ACC, Julie Despaties, Executive Director at Adopt4Life, and Jessica Van Der Veer, Youth Advocate and older child adoptee spoke about the critical need to take action and ensure legislative reform in order to create a new attachment leave for adoptive, kin and customary care families. Their remarks were received by a full room hosted by the Economic Club of Canada, and heard live by stakeholders across the country via livestream. #TimetoAtach has received support from policy makers and government representatives from every major party. Both the Liberal and Conservative parties included the creation of a new protected leave for adoptive parents in their electoral platforms in the recent federal election. This is a non-partisan issue, and we will continue to seek support for legislative change from all political parties. A huge thank you to the adoption, kinship and customary care community, all of our partners across Canada, and those who have joined us in our efforts to ensure all children are given the time needed to bond to their parents and caregivers. #WeAreStrongerTogether #TimetoAttach

A year ago today our #TimeToAttach team went to Ottawa for their first round of meetings with federal MPs to advocate for a 15-week attachment leave for adoptive parents, kin and customary caregivers. On #NationalChildDay, no less! Our partners Adopt4Life - Ontario's Adoptive Parents Association, The Adoption Council of Canada, and others continue to advocate for this initiative across Canada. #cdnpoli
