With my recent post showing images of myself at 30/40/50 in great shape I’ve had a few DMs commenting that it must be great to have such good genetics to be in shape my whole life. This could not be farther from the truth! In fact, I have shit genetics and have to scratch and claw for every ounce of muscle I gain and have to diet my ass off to burn the fat. It wasn’t until my late 20’s that I finally figured out the proper approach to training and nutrtion to see real changes... in my body. I had friends in high school that never watched what they ate and by being active and playing sports alone had great physiques but I wasn’t one of them. When I look at my 30/40/50 year old post I don’t see great genetics and an easy path I see many years of struggle and sacrifice that eventually became a way of life for me. 99% of the population would not have lived the life I did for so many years to look the way I do today. As I look back now with my decades of experience and realize that I didn’t have to be as hardcore as I was, I have now learned about balance with my diet and training. Today I live a much more rewarding lifestyle where I can go out to eat, travel without thinking about my diet and working out all the time, I actually have a life. From my mid 20’s to my early 40’s everything I ate was accounted for and my training was much more intense. I’ve loosened up a lot in recent years and now enjoy my life. This has made life more fun for me and my clients. What’s your motivation? 99% of the people I’ve trained over the years motivation was to look better, plain and simple. I’ve literally had clients with several significant health issues due to an unhealthy lifestyle that could dramatically shorten their life. However, they are coming to see me to look better not to become healthier. The fortunate things for my clients is that they are going to improve their health on their way to the better body goal. The older I get the more I realize that looking good is terrific BUT being healthy is far more important. #priorites

Real-time #blackandwhite #abscheck I’ve increased my calories somewhat as I have been feeling depleted even when I’ve replenished my glycogen stores after #fasting I haven’t increased them by much, I’ve basically added 40-50% more carbs to my meals (average meal was 30g now 40-45g) and this seems to be making a difference. I look fuller and feel better. Again, the leaner you get the more deprived you feel. It’s a lot different dieting when you have lots of weight to lose, you have lots of stored calories for your body to consume. Ok Game Changers since you have been brainwashed by a nutrtion documentary you are clearly interested in having more knowledge about the food you eat. This is... one of the better ones Ive seen recently that covers many angles. When you have 1.5 hours to spare give it a watch with an open mind and plain old common sense. Ive seen many of the same results people have in this movie first hand over the years. If you have children this is a must watch. Stop feeding them the shit most people THINK is good for them because the food corporations say so. Start fuelling their bodies with the foods that were put on this planet for us to eat.

Its funny how most people would look at me (in person or online) and think this prick is full of himself. Yet the truth is this prick is the first one to point out his flaws and is far more humble then expected. I realize there is always going to be someone in better shape or is more talented and more successful. I compare m...yself to people that are better then me all the time. This is what keeps me humble, however I also compare myself to the person I used to be and thats what keeps me motivated to continue to stand out from the crowd. This pic was taken last Friday afternoon. I had completed 43 hours of #intermittenfasting Tuesday evening then ate my typical diet of 6 meals a day Wednesday and Thursday. Since Friday night I had a big food binge on the town lined up I figured I would #fast again from Thursday evening at 8pm to eat again Friday evening around 6:30. In retrospect this may not have been the best idea. I feel super depleted in this pic and my stomach felt like a black hole consuming itself. The leaner you get the more aware you have to be about how you fast. When there you are carrying lots of body fat you have more wiggle room if you will. Decades of #dedication and experience. Ive said it before and Ill say it again, I may not be the most jacked or the most anything for that matter but I dont know anyone personally that has been ripped year in and out (minus the odd few weeks of indulgence here and there) like I have been. Is it easy? Not even close! Why do you think bodybuilders have on and off seasons? Being lean 24/7 take a toll on your body and your mind but Ive sacrificed to inspire and motivate my cl...ients through the years. I used to look like crap most of my teen years and early 20s, embarrassed to take off my shirt or wear shorts in public. Since my transformation three decades ago its almost impossible to keep my body covered;) This has never been a fad or a phase for me, this became a lifestyle and stayed one and always will. If you truly follow me you know that recently I have been eating clean (most of the time) and indulging less. Saying that, I am living the #fitnessfoodie lifestyle by having some spectacular meals while continuing to lean out. Hour 41 of what will be 46 hours of #intermittenfasting No pump, as usual. So needless to say Im feeling depleted BUT Im not feeling the saggy skin as much as previous weeks. My skin still needs to tighten A LOT for me to look my best but I still have 4.5 weeks to improve before my beach vacation. Between now and then I have at least 8 days where my food is going to be excessive. Yes I could use restraint and ensure I eat very little on the days. #keepinitreal with another real time #abscheck This was taken at 10am Monday Dec 16th. Last Friday I went out for a night on the town where we got 4 restaurants in one night and had countless dishes. Saturday I spent eating some of the doggie bag contents as well as ordering a bunch of Thai food that evening. Something didnt agree with me and I spent all of Sunday lying down unable to eat or drink anything without getting sick. Needless to say that very sick day became day o...ne of my 48 hours of #intermittentfasting I felt like hell but there is no easier way to fast then being unable to eat due to an illness;). I feel great today thankfully and will continue the fast until approx hour 45-46 before eating. Working on a program for a new 40+ client. Generally I have to modify my typical training approach for the older client. Often they are coming to me with some sort of physical issue, and or health concerns. If they dont I still have to consider that they are not going to recover as quickly as they did in their earlier years to prevent injury and overtraining. I have to say I probably enjoy training arms more than any other body part. Thats not saying much as i loath training most body parts. Thats right, you heard me. I dont love working out. Shocker? I workout and eat right for one reason only, to look the way I do. I dont enjoy killing myself in the gym or sacrificing all my favourite foods and beverages for decades at a time. I realize that if I dont live the lifestyle that I do I will look like every other #skinnyfat guy ...out there. Trust me, I remember my before pic days. Another #realtime #abscheck The pic may or may not show a significant change in the Lea was of my abs BUT the skin fold callipers have shown a drop in approx 30% of subcutaneous body fat in the past 3 weeks. I think due to the amount of liquids I consume and the volume of low calorie vegetables to bulk up my meals I end up distending my stomach every night before bed. This makes it even harder for my skin to tighten to reveal the true definition. I have to reduce my meal size, as much as I hate the idea, and get used to feeling hungry and deprived again. Saying that, tonight I have an epic #foodie experience planned with friends. God only knows how much distension Im in for tonight;). Another #realtime #abscheck for those of you following along. There may not seem to be a major change visually but according to the skin fold callipers there have been a drop of approx 30% in the subcutaneous fat around my abs. Ive been drinking lots of water and eating larger meals (more veggies) which often distends my stomach. This keeps the skin from getting tighter. As I lean out more and my skin gets tighter over time I will become very #vascular Sadly as much as I enjoy being freaky lean and vascular the general masses feel otherwise. Being covered in veins is too hardcore for the mainstream crowd but luckily for me this body is by design for ME and no one else. You are and artist and your body is your canvas, make it look however you want regardless of others think. Ideally you ...will do it in a healthy way and not a harmful way. Quite often I have clients that become self conscious because of negative comments they may get from friends and family thinking they are going too far. With todays waistlines getting bigger than ever and becoming the norm many people think that someone who is trying to get lean has some sort of body dysmorphia. The real body dysmorphia is in the media and the eyes of the general public accepting being overweight and even obese as the new norm. Go to a gym or beach and check out the people in great shape, Im guessing the majority are in their 20s and it starts to dwindle fast from there. The older I get the more attention I get (which as an #attentionwhore I love) and its mainly to do with the fact that I am now a fitness unicorn. This weekend wasnt perfect diet wise. I had my granddaughter staying with us which exposed me to treats we normally dont have in the house. Yes I did end up nibbling on Sour Candies and M&Ms while watching combat sports on TV. Partly due to cutting my finger pretty bad while being distracted from chopping up food for dinner. This lead to playing the victim that could only be consoled with sugary treats. Then the next day was followed by dinner and wine at moms. I may not be prefect, far from. I may not be the strongest or the fastest, not even close. One thing I do tend to excel at is #longevity I have outperformed 99% of the people that were in extreme shape with me back in the day. Its one thing to be in your shape in your 20s, its another to maintain that shape for 30 years. Its also another thing to sacrifice for decades and maintain extreme shape. Ive never competed as I have too many flaws and I dont need them to be poin...ted out. Ive always looked at my life as a stage, I compete in life everyday not on stage against a handful of people who prepped for that one and only day. Everyday I wake up after completing another perfect day on my diet I wake up a happy guy. Much better feeling then the mornings where Im still full from the night before or even worse feeling the effects of too much vino! The saying goes nothing tastes as good as being in shape feels. #thisis50 or at least this is me at 50. After three decades of staying in shape (single digit body fat 99% of the time) by always eating clean it starts to get a little old. The older I get the more the #foodie in me wants to get out. However I can still enjoy many of my favorite dishes by preparing them at home and replacing dirty ingredients with clean ones. Today I prepared a #thai dish known as #padkraprao which is one of the most popular dishes in Thailand. I ground up #...porktenderloin instead of using pre ground pork. This is a much leaner option and it tastes just as good. By using far less oil and a leaner protein source I took a meal that I couldnt eat at a restaurant and stay on track and turned it into one I could. By weighing and measuring the food before putting it on my plate I know Im getting the exact macros I require. #thisis50 or at least this is me at 50. I get so many DMs from guys telling me how they have tried to get into shape but cant. The problem is lack of knowledge more than lack of desire. When you waste months trying to get into shape and only spin your wheels its frustrating. That was basically my first 3 years of working out. I had no idea what I was doing in the gym and knew nothing about nutrition. It wasnt until I took the Trainer and Sports Nutrition Specialist courses... through @issaonline in the 90s that I finally understood what I was doing wrong. This is what led to me leaving the corporate world for the fitness world. Anyone can get into much better shape than they presently are, IF they know what to do. The morning after breaking my 45 hours of #intermittentfasting I broke my fast at my #Persian wifes familys house with a #Persianfood feast. I used some self control and didnt go crazy with the food. To be honest Ive been eating so clean lately that the food I ate didnt quite agree with me like it normal does. Lots of carbs and fat all at once got my stomach doing flips so I had to shut down the feeding frenzy early;). Turned out to be a fortunate situation as it prevent...ed me from having any spillover. Needless to say Im feeling fuller today and remaining lean even though Im probably holding some sub Q water from all the sodium. Either way Im calling this a success! Most fitness industry people get into photoshoot shape and pay several photographers to take many many shots with many looks that they can post year round.
