MYTH: If It’s Not Broken, Don’t Fix It Many people out there still believe that unless their septic tank backs up, there is no need to clean it. That could not ...be any further from the truth. The thing is, if you leave your tank for too long the solids become extremely thick and move through the Centre wall and into the effluent side of the tank. The solids then travel out to the weeping field, clogging it. For those old single chamber tanks, it's even more important to get those solids out as there is no center wall and the solids are more at risk of leaving the tank and reaching the weeping field. Cleaning your septic tank every 3-5 years removes all the solids(if you have a good septic professional cleaning your tank) and gives your septic professionals a chance to make sure your system is operating well BEFORE you have an emergency sewage back up and have to replace your entire system due to lack of maintenance, which is very costly compared to maintaining your system appropriately.
