Oh, hi there! I’m Tina, the artist behind these paintings. As a child, I remember my childhood home full of my granny’s artwork. I remember the feeling of mystery and wonder while studying the thick impasto oil paint of her brushstrokes on each painting. This was the initial start of my love of art. I live in Gibsons with my hubby, two kids and two doggies. I grew up on the Sunshine Coast. I schooled and travelled the world, but eventually made it back here. We recently m...oved to a much smaller home with a huge backyard. This gives me the room to build my own studio. I’ve been dreamily thinking up a layout. Stay tuned. It’s in the works for next year. I enjoy listening to podcasts and jazzy music while I paint. My goal is to take the wonder I feel from nature and put that feeling into each painting. Yesterday, I mentioned my primary reason for creating art. Today, I’d like to mention my secondary reason. I feel responsible to pay homage to nature. I paint the wonder and humbleness felt when viewing and exploring nature. I feel a deep sense of gratitude while star gazing, taking deep breathes after a rainfall, listening to the rhythm of waves, birds chirping, viewing sunrises and sunsets, admiring the silhouettes of trees and standing at the base of a mountain while looking up. Of course, these are only some examples. Through nature, we can feel and live deeply in everyday life by taking moments to feel gratitude and the think about the wonder of it all. My goal is to take my feelings of wonder and gratitude and put some into each painting.

For me, the primary reason for creating art is the process. A good day in the studio (or in my case right now, the office) is when I get into a flow state. Time passes, music stops, and I haven’t realized a few hours have passed while moving brushes around. Today, we passed by Kennedy Lake on the way to Ucluelet. I haven’t been to the West Coast of Vancouver Island in 7 years. 7 years ago, I remember I yelled Stop the car and my husband frantically, but angrily pulled over for me so I could gather some reference material of Kennedy Lake. I KNOW some of you can relate to this Today, I warned him ahead of time. My spot is coming up. Get ready to pull over. And he happily pulled over and I snapped away for as long as I wanted.... I’ve walked the beaches near my home a lot during these last few months. Lots of time for the ocean breeze to gently tell me that this strange season will pass.
