We finally had a chance to break in our new snowshoes. With lots of fresh powder snow on the ground it was ideal conditions to strap them on and go on an adventure. This was our daughters first time using snowshoes and she was not too sure until she started walking. Now, she loves them! Jenni and I have always used traditional Huron style snowshoes that provide amazing flotation. These sport style shoes have fabulous spikes that provided great grip on the packed trail bu...t less flotation in the powder. For day hikes or icy conditions these sport shoes are a great choice. For winter camping of going off trail in deep snow, traditional shoes are the best option! Colin chose to go without poles and Jenni with. Van-tastic Camping! - These 4 VW Camp Vans rolled into the park this past weekend while we were there, and the owners were kind enough to let us check them out! - All 4 are models from the 1970's and have been lovingly restored and cared for. The dark orange van, we were told, is still sporting the original interior being a beautiful orange plaid.... - For those that know, there is no mistaking the sound of a 70's VW motor. With almost summer like weather here, we are we took advantage of the weekend and headed back to Valens Conservation Area. We topped up the fresh water tank,since their water lines have been shut down for the season, and dewinterized the trailer. - With the sun shining a daytime high of 21c (70f) it was an incredible November camp. A great way to get some walks in and relax a little after the week. - With the weather forecast to remain in the 20’s for the week we w...ish we could have stayed! - Perhaps we’ll get another weekend in before the real cold sets.
