Tip of Spear: Krav Maga Self-Defense and Security Training 14.01.2021

Gunner says: What do you want for 2021? I (Andrea) honestly used to think that setting goals or resolutions were cheesy or pointless. (Can you relate??) And then I realized that my life wasn't changing for the better - I was just staying the same, and it was the same old thing year after year. Might as well stab myself in the eye with the nearest holiday decoration! And then I started thinking about my future... Where I wanted to go, what I wanted to do, who I wanted to be. ...And I realized that the only way to make my life better was to change. That started with making a decision and setting a goal or two or three. Once I had my goals, then I could make a plan to accomplish it. Now I set goals in every area of my life and it is exciting to look back and see how much I've grown and changed over the past year! It gives me hope for what the future could look like, that the assurance that I have a lot of control over it. If you haven't already done so, think about setting some goals such as: Career - do you want to move up the ladder or specialize where you are? What skills do you need to learn? What courses or education could teach you those skills? What books or audio could you absorb? Character - where do you tend to fall short and want to shore up? Honesty? Patience? Integrity? Listening well? Keeping an open mind? How can you work on this? Finances - do you want to get out of debt or save up for something big, like a vehicle? Relationships - which relationships do you need to invest more time into? Who can you teach? Who can you learn from? Who could you reach out to? Wellness - how do you want to improve your physical well-being? And your mental well-being? Write down your goals AND a plan to accomplish them. Put them up on your wall so you're reminded daily to follow through, and find an accountability partner to help you stay focused. Let's kick some ass and do some cool things together this year, pandemic or no pandemic! #tipofspearyeg #2021 #newyearsresolutions #goalsetting #goalsfor2021 #changemechangemylife #growallways #leadyourfuture #futurefocused

We try our best to emulate this quote in how we teach at Tip of Spear. The lessons that are shared in our courses and training programs help our students build their career and stay safe, but there's a deeper level there. Skills and knowledge are important, but mindset and attitude are critical and taught too. Such as how to have difficult conversations with your coworker, how and why to admit when you're wrong, how to stay humble but grow in your confidence. I'm so proud of... our instructors who generously share what they know. Every one of our instructors have so much life experience and wisdom, who care about their students and are absolutely excited to share what they've learned - to give them life skills to succeed. They are solid individuals who have solid character and integrity and expect no less from those they teach, because they teach leaders and future leaders. #tipofspearyeg #leadbyexample #lifeskills #mentorship #integrityiseverything #honour #futureleaders

Predictive behaviour. I have seen over the years people that are very adept at reading a persons actions, facial expressions, along with other tell tale signs of their intent (direction of travel, body talk). Have you watched someone and known exactly what they were going to do before they did it. These are skills we need to consistently develop as it acts like our long range radar....giving us time to create a plan, develop opportunities, de-escalate before it comes to fruition. Loss Prevention is one of those industries that thrives on the skill of prediction. For the common person, this could mean the difference between success on the job, or safety on the streets. Work on your observation skills and practice by watching and predicting to yourself what a person will do on a daily basis. We’re you right or wrong, analyze and improve.

Leg defense drills! From our Krav Maga class in November before the lockdowns. Self-defense is a life skill that is becoming increasingly more important in this day and age. We love IKMF Krav Maga because it's simple to learn and extremely effective. Plus it's fun and builds confidence at the same time! I've been a student of Dave's for several years now and every time I attend, I feel stretched, empowered and the exercise feels so good! We are jacked to be opening up an ...online/in-person class in January! This means that you can attend even if you're not living in Edmonton!!!! Pre-registrations are now being accepted, so get yours in for first dibs as space is limited! All information is on our website - link is in our bio. Don't forget to enter for the giveaway we are doing! See previous post for details!! Closes Friday. #kravmaga #ikmf #selfdefense #selfdefenseclass #protectyourself #yegclasses #yegevents #alberta #kicksomeass #growyourself #selfdefencetraining #selfdefence #courageovercomfort #couragetochange #edmontonalberta

Hey Dad, let's go faster! Our German Shepherd Gunner is always so full of energy and brings us such joy. I can't help but smile every time I watch this! We go for walks around our neighborhood, not only because it's good exercise for us and the dogs, but it also gives us an opportunity to get to know our neighbors and practice our situational awareness by watching for normal and abnormal activity. We ask ourselves questions like: what are the normal patterns of comings and go...ings of our neighbors, what do they drive, do they live alone or with others? To be really honest, for many years I didn't care about the answers to these questions (I'm ashamed to say). But crime rates continue to increase and the first defense against it is prevention, which includes: planning ahead and developing our situational awareness. This allows us to watch out for our neighbors, and create safer neighborhoods. You and I are the first defense against crime - we are the eyes and ears of law enforcement. And not just for crime - maybe that neighbor living by herself slipped on her front step and paying attention would allow us to realize she needs help and we can call an ambulance for her. Together we are safer if we choose to look out for each other. Today's challenge: pay a little extra attention to what happens in your neighborhood. Tell us what you do in your community! Do you have a neighborhood watch set up? How do you watch out for each other?
