#ImmigrationMatters to economic growth and keeping Canada competitive on the world stage. Did you know? Immigrants contributed to half the average real GDP g...rowth over 2016-2019. Without immigration, Canada’s population would begin to decline in just over a decade, and potential growth would slow to around 1% a year. The Government of Canada is committed to an immigration system that supports economic growth, diversity, and building inclusive communities, and will continue to welcome newcomers who bring the skills our economy needs to grow: https://www.budget.gc.ca//2020/report-rapport/chap3-en.html

Our new immigration levels plan for 20212023 sets out a path for responsible increases to the number of immigrants to help the Canadian economy recover from #C...OVID19 and lay the foundation for future growth. Highlights of the plan include: A focus on how immigration can help our economy, with approximately 60 per cent of immigrants to be chosen under economic immigration programs. A continued focus on innovative approaches where communities and businesses are encouraged to work together to welcome immigrants in communities across the country to help meet worker shortages. A renewed commitment to improve the processing of immigration applications, including spousal applications, by maximizing digital solutions. An increase in admissions over the three years of the plan to make up the shortfall in 2020 Additional points for French-speaking candidates under Express Entry, to promote the growth of Francophone communities outside of Quebec A commitment to admit up to 500 refugees over the next 2 years through the Economic Mobility Pathways Project, an innovative approach that helps qualified refugees apply for permanent residence through existing economic immigration pathways A pathway to permanent residency for eligible asylum claimants who were working on the front lines of the pandemic between March 13 and August 14, 2020, providing direct care to patients in health-care institutions. Today IRCC announced changes that are being implemented to provide more flexibility on eligibility rules for the Post-Graduation Work Permit Program for student...s who start their Canadian study program online from abroad. Students are now able to study online from abroad until April 30, 2021, with no time deducted from the length of a future post-graduation work permit, provided 50% of their program of study is eventually completed in Canada. Students who have enrolled in a program that is between 8 and 12 months in length with a start-date from May to September 2020 will be able to complete their entire program online from abroad and still be eligible for a post-graduation work permit. Students who enroll in a program with a start-date from May-September 2020, study online up to April 30 2021 and who graduate from more than one eligible program of study may be able to combine the length of their programs of study when they apply for a PWGP in the future. Student can apply for a PWGP in the future in this case as long as 50% of their total studies are completed in Canada. To be eligible for these measures, students must submit a study permit application no later than September 15, 2020 for programs with a fall start date.
