Working on the structure for Black Chorus and Orchestra

Title 66 Productions 09.12.2020

Happy Monday! In honour of Black History Monthwe are very excited to announce the latest project: Black Chorus & Orchestra. A new hybrid form of video-theatre-installation, this piece explores how technologies and creative arts have impacted issues of race and resistance, with a focus on African-American history and culture. The final product will take form as a four-channel video installation surrounding the audience. With the frame of the camera becoming the proscenium ar...ch, Black Chorus and Orchestra proposes a new hybrid form for the 21st century by combining contemporary avant-garde theatre practices with an immersive video installation, pushing the boundaries of what is possible in either medium. This is an international co-production with the dynamic duo of Photographer/Video Artist Nikita Shokhov & Producer/Curator Anna Evtyugina, both originally from Russia and living in the USA. Steeped in extensive research, we’re working with Art Historian/Artist Kaila Austin, and are partnering with an array of historians, scholars, and institutions for our research; including Indiana University's African American Arts Institute. With an anticipated 45 performers, we're aiming for a piece that is operatic in scope, interdisciplinary, and highly stylized. It will include text, poetry, movement, acting, dance, choir, sound, music, architecture, video, programming, and light art. This large-scale project is in the early stages of development. Let us know what you think, we’d love to hear your thoughts or questions!
