I hate to admit this but 2019 was the first year that my writing income exceeded my writing expenses. Am I a pro now? No. Just a retired person with a mildly-profitable hobby.

Did a couple of author presentations at Library Con in Lac La Biche Alberta yesterday. A good time was had by all. However, I now understand why so many people hate Hwy 28. That's one seriously dangerous road at night.

It’s the Christmas season and everyone’s trying to sell stuff. In my case, I have books. Not surprising for an author, I suppose. The paperback editions of A Walk in the Thai Sun, Planet Song, and Alpha Tribe are all $5.00 off making them $10, $15 and $20, respectively. The drop cards below them are the real steals, not only because they’re only $5 and make great stocking stuffers, but also because each of them gives you access to both Mobi and ePub files and so can be read on any device. If you’re interested in any of these contact me and I’ll get them to you.

Hi there. I am still writing, working on "The Will of the Giver". My pace has been steady for the past month, averaging about 800 words a day. This one of those times when the latest news is more of the same. I am really enjoying the way this is taking shape.

I will be at the Edmonton Expo this weekend selling and signing books. If you prefer digital versions, I will also have those and they're only $5 each.

Am I writing the final book in the Fahr trilogy? Yes. "The Will of the Giver" is well underway. But my thinking about how I'm going to handle this book and the completed trilogy is changing. Unlike most writers, I have a fully equipped recording studio in my basement. It has its origins in the songwriting I was doing between 2006 and 2011. Since then I've mainly used it to experiment with sound and I've released a few podcast episodes of "Planet Song" along the way. I ...wasn't overly happy with those since they were little more than spoken word pieces and I knew I could do so much more with them. These days there are so many writers trying to get noticed online and most are failing because they don't have anything unique to set before the public. How does one stand out? My plan is to turn "The Fahr Trilogy" into a multi-episode sound production, an extended audiobook on steroids. I think this will be great fun but, in the meantime, I have to finish "The Will of the Giver" and make a text version of that available to those so patiently waiting for it. My current writing schedule has me finishing the final book in the trilogy by Christmas. See more

This week begins a writing marathon for me. Apart from a few minor distractions--like starting piano lessons, Bianca Andreescu and eventually the Vancouver Canucks--I will be focused on turning out as many words as I can. The idea is to post the totals at the end of the day. Not looking for specific numbers, just progress. There will be a few down days when I know I won't be writing. Edmonton Expo Sept 20-22 and a proposed trip to Jasper also sometime this month but the fall is otherwise wide open. To be honest, I've been in a bit of a writing funk lately so I will need cheering on. What are friends for, right?
