Good morning everyone ... I know its been a while , unfortunately we've been under construction...Not to worry, because today I will highlight the importance and benefits of skipping rope, not only for boxers but for everyday gym enthusiasts as well. Skipping rope is a staple in every boxers regiment. These 5 points are certain to help improve your fitness and health. 1) Improve Your Footwork Jumping rope helps fighters develop their footwork for ring movement. The key to th...rowing a heavy punch is having a solid base underneath your torso. Moving your feet in the proper manner allows you to throw crisp and clean punches that cause damage, and helps you avoid punches. Jumping rope at a fast pace gives you confidence that you can move your feet quickly in the ring. 2) It burns a ton of calories. When you jump repeatedly, your body burns 800 to 1,000 calories an hour compare that to 200 to 300 calories burned per hour while walking. 3) You can take it with you anywhere. Are you traveling, or do you not feel like going to the gym today? Throw your jump rope in your suitcase and bring it with you on vacation or whenever you just want to fit in a quick workout anywhere. 10 minuets of skipping a day is said to equate to 30 minuets of running. 4) It's good for your heart. Jumping rope on a regular basis improves your cardiovascular fitness, the ability of the heart and lungs to supply oxygen to working muscles. 5) Respect the Sport's Traditions Professional fighters use the jump rope to help them prepare for important bouts. Fighters such as Jack Dempsey, Gene Tunney, Joe Louis and Sugar Ray Robinson became expert rope jumpers as they trained. Muhammad Ali, one of the greatest heavyweight fighters of all time, was perhaps the best rope-jumping big man in ring history. In his prime, Ali displayed incredible speed in the ring. He would jump rope for 20 minutes at a time, constantly striving to get his footwork to a level where he knew he could out-maneuver any opponent in the ring.

Good morning everyone, I came across a great article written by a professional trainer this morning, and i thought it would be perfect to share. For those who aren't familiar with boxing terminology pad-work is exactly what you see in the videos I've posted so far. Pad-work has been called many things by many different trainers, be it mitt-work, focus-mitts, focus-pads, but in the end its all the same. Here is a little excerpt from the article listing the benefits of pad-wo...rk "The beauty of pads is you can do anything on them. You can teach the basics but you can also teach the elite top performers on the pads. Thats the one to one time that they enjoy as well. Its the nearest they come to competition, as such, apart from sparring. Its a moving target, its under your control, you can work them hard or whatever you want to do with them. Fault correction is good for pads because you can talk to them and work them through it. And they like doing it as well. Most boxers like doing pads. " As both a boxer and a coach I can verify that these points are all very accurate from either side of the mitts. It is a major part of any development , be it training for fun or training for competition. Not to mention the huge benefits of conditioning, the great development of hand eye coordination as well as the level of fun you experience from it. Heres some pad work that Ive been working on with my trainer Remo DiCarlo ...Although what I will be doing with my clients wont be as intense as this, like everyone I was once taught the basics. As you can see pad work is a great exercise to get you and keep you in shape.
