I travelled to our little country store yesterday so our employees could enjoy the long weekend off. I then drove back to the ranch and arrived home late last night. It was also my birthday yesterday so my daughter Maria baked me a gluten-free cake. It was a chocolate roll made only with cocoa, eggs, a little bit of organic powdered sugar and lots of whipped cream. It was a wonderful surprise and so delicious! Our daughter Maria is finally out of quarantine. She came home a couple of weeks ago after working in Texas for several months. Her isolation ended just in time to dry off this calf born this morning. This is the last of three cows bred last spring when one of our bulls got out and played Romeo for the night. Tired is an understatement. We were up very late last night trying to thaw a water hydrant in the bitter cold. I'm trying to function on 3 hours of sleep and thought this lovely black and white picture of a Snowy Owl was a good selection for my mood. These owls seem relatively un-phased by the frigid temperatures making me think that down would've been a better choice over insulated coveralls.
