Ice conditions are NOT SAFE! Thin ice, poor cover, and lots of slush.
Making French River proud!!
There's lots of information in this newsletter - of particular note the opposition to Hydro One's proposed changes to rate classification affecting cottagers; winter ice safety and lots more!
We have had several loons brought in over the last two weeks all with lead poisoning. Despite our best efforts, none have survived. We have successfully treated... two swans and a mallard this year, but eagles and loons have a much higher stress level and we suspect this contributes to their death. Please pass the word on to all the people you know that fish and hunt to make sure they are not using lead!!
Is anyone missing a boat? This 14 foot aluminum boat floated ashore at Paul Chartrand's place on the north shore. Please contact Paul if it is yours, or I can connect you...
A turtle's shell is not their home, it's their skeleton. When you look at a turtle's shell you're looking at the scutes (the "plates"- most turtles have 13) on ...their carapace (top part of their shell) which includes their ribcage and their backbone. Their shell is an integral part of their body, it's not where they live. Snapping turtles have a territory ranging from 4 to 22 acres while box turtles have a much smaller territory ranging from .5 to usually less than 2 acres. Turtles have a home territory, and they all know their home very, very well. If you see a turtle in an unsafe place like in the road or smack in the middle of a dog park, please don't take them and leave them somewhere that you think is appropriate. That'd be like me taking you from your back yard and leaving you in the middle of nowhere. Scary, right? Just move them off to the side in the direction they were headed. They know what they're doing and they know exactly where they're going.

Another very informative newsletter with issues relevant to all Trout Lake property owners...
A big thank you to Gerry and Cindy Dowrie at Owls Nest Lodge whose event on August 8th raised $600 for the TLCASD. Thank you as well to all who donated. It was a lovely night on the water listening to the The French River Band.
Low Water Levels - Boating Hazards This is just a reminder to everyone that low water levels have created new boating hazards such as rocks, in areas where you might not expect them. Please be cautious.
Just wondering, I haven't been able to make it to my cottage on north shore this season, but hopefully starting to go in August, what's the public boat launch i...s like by edith lake, haven't been able to use it last few years, I drive a dodge durango which doesn't have great clearance and have a pontoon boat, also with everything happening at happy landing is there public boat launch still open? Thanks See more
Sunset tonight!
