Another update for you! Brad worked some magic and made a skiing trail along the Whiteway! There is both classic and skate skiing now available. Please do not walk on the ski trail as it wrecks the skiing for users, especially during these warmer temps. There is a walk track for walkers to enjoy. Edit- skating still is not recommended as the ice is very rough and bumpy. Hopefully this warmer weather will help smooth it out.

The skate portion of the Whiteway is open, and in the words of both our grooming team and one of our members, it’s ok and not terrible. Brad was able to clear some snow off to create a skating lane. There are cracks and air pockets out there so please keep your eyes peeled. The areas that saw heavy traffic during the really warm conditions are rougher than areas that were less travelled. There is still not enough snow to set a ski lane on the main lake. Lake Lillian is available for skiing but could use some fresh snow as well. Both Nipika and Pano are ready to rock the skiing and the trails are in great shape. And cross your fingers for more snow so we can all partake in the Whiteway Challenge we are hosting soon! Happy New Year everyone! An update on the Whiteway.... it’s still not ready for use but we wanted to keep everyone in the loop. So far the ice is some of the worse our grooming team has ever seen. It’s incredibly rough and terrible for skating. Brad has been working hard to prep an area in case we get rain and warm weather as predicted, which may help smooth things out. There isn’t enough snow yet to put in a skiing lane but a walking path has been added. ... Please stay tuned and we will let you know as soon as the ice is ready for fun! See more

Is everyone ready for the weekend? I know I am! The Whiteway isn’t happening at the moment. While we wait for Mother Nature to help us out, we want to remind everyone that Nipika and Pano have wonderful xc skiing. The trail systems are fantastic and the scenery is pretty inspiring. Trail fees are in effect for both locations as well as for the trails at Lake Lillian. You can buy day passes or season passes. Nipika and Pano offer discounts for season passes to TCNSC members so be sure to ask.

Very exciting news!! Pre-order your Whiteway gear now! We have teamed up with local business Kootenay Clothing Company. $5 from each hoodie will come to the Toby Creek Nordic Club! Thank you ladies! We look forward to seeing these hoodies out and about.

We have closed the Whiteway for the time being. Our hope is that if we keep people off, and damage due to foot traffic is limited, when it gets cold again the ice will freeze up smoothly. If people continue to use the surface it may leave ruts and divots that we won’t be able to repair. Thank you for your patience.

The Lake Windermere Whiteway is still NOT open! Lake Lillian and the junior Johnson have been tracked for skiing and walking (with separate paths for each activity) but still no skating. We need a few more cooler days before we can get out there with the heavy machinery. We will be updating this page as conditions change or grooming occurs.
