Sometimes a problem is actually an opportunity. There was a peninsula counter dividing up this kitchen space. But when removed, it was discovered that there was no tile underneath. And only a few matching full pieces not enough to fill the whole space. So a creative solution was needed. This tile inlay mosaic adds a decorative feature and ties the whole space together, better than the original plan of an all brown floor.

Think there might be a leak in your bathroom or along your baseboards? Do not procrastinate! The longer it stays wet behind the tile, the more expensive the repair will be. In this case, $100 of maintenance would have prevented the $1000s it took to repair this wall. Make sure your tile setter has expertise in waterproofing systems. And over time, make sure your silicone along the corners (correct jargon is actually sealant) is always intact.

Nice, bright new backsplash. It’s a small but functional detail that makes the room look finished. Its slightly beveled frame provided enough height to elegantly overcome an inconveniently located electrical outlet, but also gives the backsplash more dimension, bridging the contemporary and classic elements of the room.

Old pic (3 years ago), but still good. There was a bulkhead extending into the shower. Just didn’t seem right to leave it as bare drywall, as it was on the plans. So I incorporated it into the wall tile pattern. Also note, the glass accent stripe is flat, straight, and flush with the field tile.
