I’ve lost friends and loved ones to suicide and I have family members who continue to battle mental illness. I struggle with these losses. And I live with the physical and emotional scars of this every day. We can leave a legacy of action by being the change that is needed. We can lead the way by having honest and frank discussions. Today, I was honoured to speak in the House on the importance of Orange Shirt Day. Originating in my hometown of Williams Lake, Orange Shirt Day is an opportunity for us to remember and relfect on this horrific part of our Canadian story. Every Child Matters; never again can we allow this to happen.

Yesterday, I spoke on our Conservative Opposition Motion calling for an in-depth study of the Liberal response to the pandemic at the Health Committee. Conservatives raised questions on coronavirus in January and our concerns were dismissed. Canadians deserve to know what this Government knew and when they knew it.

As Canada continues to battle a suicide epidemic, on top of the coronavirus pandemic, our neighbours in United States have taken concrete action to combat and prevent suicide. With the passage of the National Suicide Hotline Designation Act, "9-8-8" will be the universal telephone number to reach the National Suicide Prevention Hotline starting in 2022. Liberals don't understand rural Canada or respect rural Canadians. Today, I was proud to present a petition on behalf of nearly 60,000 law-abiding firearms owners who are opposed to Justin Trudeau's Order in Council which targets farmers, sport shooters and hunters across Canada. Conservatives will always stand up for rural Canadians and a Conservative Government will repeal this Order in Council.
