Whether your caesarean scar is well on its way to healing or you are still pregnant and want to be prepared, this is one epi...sode you don’t want to miss! Wednesdays at noon on @birth_and_baby_talk! . . . #torontofamilydoulas #toronto #torontomom #torontomama #millennialmom #torontoparents #csection #caesarean #cesarean #cesareanscar #cesareanbirth #postpartumrecover

Are you ready for some postpartum real talk this week? This week we are all about what to expect after baby has arrived! As many moms can tell, once baby is here that is where the focus goes. As a society, we prepare parents for life with a new baby but we don’t talk as much about recovering from giving birth and mom’s postpartum experience. Join us Wednesday at noon on Facebook Live @birth_and_baby_talk as we get into the nitty gritty of life, and your body, after having a ...baby. Do you have questions about what to expect after having a baby? Shoot us a DM and we will make sure to answer your question during the episode! . . . . #torontofamilydoulas #toronto #torontodoulas #torontobirth #torontopostpartum #torontoparents #torontofamily #torontomom #torontomama #torontodad #sleep #sleepdeprivation #parenthood #parentlife #postpartumlife

We’ve been talking up the Haakaa pump all week and there is a reason why! We truly love this small-but-mighty parenting tool. It is a great option for parents planning to breastfeed who also want the convenience of offering pumped milk in a bottle. Especially in the early days when an electric pump might be uncomfortable, the haakaa offers a simple to use and convenient solution to the question of what to put in those first few bottles. Plus, no one likes spilled (or leaking!) milk! Join us today at noon on @birth_and_baby_talk to find out why the haakaa pump makes our list of favourite doula products!

October 15th is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day. Every year, thousands of Canadian families experience the unimaginable - the loss of a child. Whether that loss occurs in the early stages of pregnancy or after they have been born, it is a painful, devastating, and isolating experience. Today we remember those babies. We light candles, say their names, and hold their families in our hearts. ... They are gone, but not forgotten. . . . . . . . #torontofamilydoulas #toronto #torontodoulas #october15 #pregnancyandinfantloss #pregnancyandinfantlossawareness #pregnancyandinfantlossawarenessday #pregnancyandinfantlossawarenessmonth #pregnancyloss #sidsawareness #infantlossawareness

We aren’t sure who came up with the term geriatric pregnancy, or the current advanced maternal age but no one wants to hear that in their 30’s! Or 40’s for that matter. So what does advanced maternal age ACTUALLY mean for your pregnancy, your birth, and your baby? Join owner Meaghan this Wednesday at noon to find out!

2%. That's how many pregnant women have Hyperemesis Gravidarum (HG). Horrible morning sickness that lasts for the duration of the pregnancy, weight loss equalli...ng 15% or more of your total body mass, and the inability to drink water or consume any food without vomiting are among the symptoms. 10%. That's how many women with HG who, although their pregnancy was planned, get an abortion due to their OB refusing to provide them with the meds, care, and hydration they need in order to survive the 40 weeks. These well-meaning doctors often do not realize they are being neglectful, but HG awareness is so limited that they simply do not understand how sick their patients are, nor do they realize that regular IV hydration infused with vitamins and medications is often the only way to combat this sickness. ~30%. That's the estimate number of HG pregnancies within an otherwise happy marriage that end in divorce, largely due to the stress caused by the wife literally believing she is dying and her partner thinking she is exaggerating, being lazy, or putting on a show. 0%. That's the percent of people who understand why HG occurs, how to adequately treat it, or how to prevent it from arising in future pregnancies. I'm extremely fortunate to have had a vast support system of doctors, nurses, family, friends, and my fiance who have both taken my sickness seriously from the start and sacrificed greatly in order to provide care for me. When I have needed more meds, I was given them. When I needed help with Ava, someone showed up to care for her. When I spent months unable to eat or drink, I was given a homecare nurse who would give me daily IVs in the comfort of my own bed in order to keep me hydrated. When all I could do was sleep all day, Steve wouldn't question my motives nor guilt me into doing more than I could. Unfortunately most women are not this lucky, so instead of doing "normal" maternity photos I decided I wanted to do a raw, vulnerable, and brutally honest session to represent the 2% of women for whom pregnancy is anything but glowing. I'm still sick. I still get IVs 3 days a week. I still vomit sometimes. But I am 27 weeks, and the finish line is drawing close. I can not say it has been easy or fun, but I can say that it will be SO worth it when I hold these little twins in my arms, able to once again eat and drink to my heart's content without the help of needles nor use of a bucket. Thank you so much to my fiercely loyal friend Hana Shapiro of @Red_Road_Media for providing me with these photos and the ability to speak out on behalf of other women with HG!
