It’s that time of year again, ice fishing, hunting, and pond hockey. These activities come with a risk of falling through the ice. Hopefully you will never find yourself in that situation but if you do here are some steps to help you out.

It's Hunting Season! It's a good idea to practice Social Distancing from that dangerous ice right now, as it is very unstable. Remember to practice good planning on your excursions, let someone know where you're going and to be prepared with essentials. ... Be safe and good luck!

As we get ready to roll into colder weather, we should consider some winter fire safety tips and planning around our household and properties. Some things to consider are: - Where are my fire extinguishers located in my house in the event of a fire?... - When is the last time Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detectors were tested and batteries checked? - Are combustibles located at least 3 feet away from heating sources and fireplaces? - Fuel source heaters (like kerosene or propane) should be used properly, and exhausted properly from closed spaces to avoid creating toxic atmospheres. Keep the fuel stored away from the source of ignition at all times. - Avoid using extension cords with added heater loads (plug directly into the source outlet). - Avoid using cord splitters with large loads like vehicle block heaters and space heaters. - Are my extension cords in good condition? Remember those thin 16 Awg extension cords that are always on sale at Canadian Tire aren't capable of much load(a block heater will typically be too much). - General Rule of Thumb for electrical loads is 1200 Watts or more should be plugged into source outlets wherever possible and not used with splitters or power bars, and should have a minimum 14 Awg conductor/cord when needed.
