Dance the night away

Tofino Nature Kids 06.12.2020

We climbed into the tree Fort, chased chickens and goats, and created beautiful Christmas decorations. Thank you Tuff City Toys for the wood cut outs. Happy Holidays everyone. See you next year!

Story time, fixing ships, love guns, and swinging from trees were a few things us Nature Kids got up to today.

Did you know that squirrels can jump 20 ft!!? We measured that out today and practiced jumping. We tried to think of why they can jump so much further than us. Some theories are they are much lighter, they jump using their arms and legs and their legs are very strong so can push them further. We tried jumping on all 4’s to see if it would make a difference, but it seems we are not built the same as a squirrel.

Apparently over 100mm of rain fell from the sky today. So after saying hello to our squirrel friend, and trying to jump as far as a squirrel, (20ft!), we headed inside for the first time this year to do some squirrel activities and Christmas crafts.

A squirrel came so close to us at circle time, we thought it was going to join us to sing some songs. After it got startled we used our sneaking skills to try to find it. We found a little hole under the tree though where we think it escaped!

We created little snowflake and star Christmas decorations today. Look at those proud faces! We also had a squirrel visit us during circle time. It came so close we thought it was going to join us to sing some songs! It did get startled away though, so we used our detective skills to try to find him/her again. Then we headed down to the mudflats to take in some sunshine, find some crabs and squish in the mud. That mud is sure sticky, it sucked a couple boots right off! That sunshine felt glorious on the face.
