Thank you to my family, Elaina, Harry, Lennox and Rocco; the sacrifices you have made and the support you have given I love you. Thank you to my volunteers and supporters for the confidence, energy, and trust you’ve invested in me and in this campaign. My friends, I know this wasn’t the result we wanted, but I’m proud of the positive, hopeful campaign we ran. ... I want to congratulate Dave Epp on his victory, and thank outgoing MP Dave Van Kesteren for his many years of public service representing Chatham Kent Leamington. This has been a spirited campaign and exchange of ideas. Democracy is better when local people step forward to put their names on the ballot. Even if we disagree, I salute the courage of everyone in this race who stepped up to advocate for what they believe in. That said, I am proud of what we have accomplished. It’s more important than ever that Canadians have someone in it for them and the NDP have shown that we’re going to stand up for people. That isn’t going to stop now. Even though I won’t be going to Ottawa, I’m proud of our work to put people at the heart of our campaign here at home. I know that the NDP will be a strong voice for people in Ottawa. Here at home, we’re going to keep growing our party and our movement. Because our fight doesn’t end today, this is just the beginning. Thank you, my friends!
