Today the whole studio went out for a very nice and relaxing lunch at Maison Selby to celebrate recent work anniversaries: Alina has been with us for 5 years and Sara for 2 years. It was really fun to reminisce about the good times and even about some of the stressful moments. It was also very gratifying to think of how Alina (@all_in_a_cam ) and Sara (@saraewong ) are the latest in an amazing lineup of designers who have contributed their talent, energy, and passion to the studio. So incredibly thankful. But, enough with the trip down memory lane and great food. Back to work! @ Maison Selby

Flash Forward is an annual photography competition that celebrates the work of emerging photographers from Canada and around the world. Since its inception in 2005, our studio has designed the print catalogue of the winners. The very first catalogue was a small, 56-page softcover book, and one of our studio's earliest projects (it's the one on the far right). But after a 15 year run, 2019 marked the last year for the competition. Sad to see it end. But very proud to have ...been involved with what was a pioneer in providing a platform for presenting the work of young photographers, helping to launch many careers. It's very satisfying to see how the catalogues have evolved over the years. For the last showcase of Flash Forward winners, our studio decided to make the biggest leap. We designed the catalogue as a website to provide the most accessible way to see all of the amazing work of the final year's winners. Our studio is extremely proud of our work with Metcalf Foundation to launch the new Johanna Metcalf Performing Arts Prizes. The generous cash prizes to the winners and their protégés support and encourage professionals within the most precarious of artistic practices. Congratulations to all of the recipients of the inaugural awards.

Just received this beautiful gift from @metcalf.foundation one of our oldest clients. This makes such a lovely capper, to not just another year of collaboration, but to our 15th year working together. And as our studio approaches the 16 year mark, I can’t help but think of all of the designers, clients, collaborators and suppliers who have contributed to our longevity. It’s especially gratifying that, like Metcalf, there are quite a few who have stuck by us from the start and with whom we have developed such long-term relationships. We wish all of our friends new, old and very old happy holidays and a 2020 filled with beauty and joy.

Today was setup day for @editiontoronto art book fair. Our studio has been doing the brand design since the fair’s inception 4 years ago. . This year’s design was inspired by toy blocks. So it was very cool to see it realized as actual large blocks on a for the signage. Thanks to @proprintservices for making our designs larger than life each year. . And anyone who loves books and printed stuff should visit the fair! It opens tomorrow night at 6pm to 10pm. Last night was Art With Heart, Casey House’s annual art auction fundraiser. Each year artists generously donate their work to support the hospital and their HIV/AIDS focussed care. As this year’s design sponsor, our studio wanted to honour the artists by featuring their tools in the marketing campaign and event materials we designed. Thanks so much to the artists who graciously lent us their trusty tools.... We are also hugely indebted to Vicky Lam @chichi_photo who donated her time to beautifully photograph the tools, bringing our concept to life. And we really appreciate the care Andora Graphics took in printing all of the materials. Tonight was the opening of photographer @jfbouchard1 In Guns We Trust exhibition at @arsenalcontemporary in Montreal. Very dramatic installation in the spacious gallery. Especially of the shot up shipping container brought from Arizona. Our studio designed the accompanying monograph printed by @typeaprint and published by @magentafoundation earlier this year. Our studio designed the catalogue for Whale Fall, an exhibition by artists @earthendreaming and @nicholascrombach on now at @cdnclayandglass in Waterloo. Finally had the chance to see the beautifully intricate installation in-person. On until September 8. @ Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery

We’ve been in NYC for the opening of a photo exhibition and launch of a book our studio designed and published by @magentafoundation our long time client. In Guns We Trust by @jfbouchard1 is about gun enthusiasts in Arizona. Even after staring at the photos while working on the book, there’s always a different impression seeing the full size prints in a gallery the first time. @ Arsenal Contemporary NY

The two disciplines often commingle and collaborate, especially with advertising, editorial and communication projects. This seems to lead certain graphic designers to work concurrently as photographers or completely crossover. Notable examples include Herbert Bayer, Henry Wolf and Arnaud Maggs. PHOTO/GRAPHIC explores the unique alchemy that happens when a graphic designer’s sensibility combines with a photographer’s gaze.
