Well you all know what day it is it’s FEATURE FRIDAY! This week the Top of Lake Superior Chamber of Commerce is excited to showcase The Salon. A business owned and ran by entrepreneur and stylist Analise Olah Analise Olah is originally from Kitchener, Ontario but has allowed her passion for hair-styling to take her to many wonderful places. It all began when she was 15 years old and enrolled in a cosmetology program at her high school. Analise then went onto a youth appren...ticeship program and by the time she was 17 she was a junior stylist at a salon in Kitchener. Her career has taken her to the Lauriel Academy in Toronto and the Fairmont Chateau in Lake Louise. Analise’s family moved to Township of Nipigon in 2016 and she followed them shortly after arriving in town as May 2017. Analise has always been a creative and free spirit who loves travel and city life. So, you can imagine it came as quite a shock to her when she arrived in the GREAT NORTH and fell absolutely in love with it. She laughed and said "if you would have told me 5 years ago that I would be in the bush hunting and trapping I wouldn’t have believed you." Aside from embracing the northern culture and lifestyle Analise stated how positively the community has embraced her business. The Salon officially opened as of July 3, 2019 and it has been thriving ever since. She answered my favourite question what is your favourite part about what you do? with something similar to other local business owners. Dealing with the public and offering clients a friendly/safe place while providing them with a quality service. Analise offers all hair services with the exceptions of perms which includes haircuts, colouring, highlights, and lowlights. She also offers facial waxing and will work on location if hired for events such as weddings. She accepts cash credit and debit and her hours vary depending on appointment. The best way to contact her to book an appointment is either by walk-in or through a phone call or text message at 807-708-4559. Her shop is located at 105 fourth street which you can’t miss with its vibrant red door. She explained she wanted it to stand out just like her favourite shade of lipstick. I think I can speak for most when I say that Analise Olah you have done a great job of standing out alone with your wonderful services and a great new addition to the business directory for the Township of Nipigon!

Today is the DAY. It’s FEATURE FRIDAY and today we are showcasing the wonderful Zechners Foodmarket. I had the privilege of sitting down with John Zechner Jr. and Lesley Zechner-Willan to discuss Zechner’s journey over the years and the navigation of running a business in a smaller community. The story of this business is a special one as this is not just about the journey of a business but a large family who has been present in this community for a long time. Well it’s time for our FEATURE FRIDAY and this week we are showcasing the lovely Classicut Hair Design. This interview was special to me as I have been a loyal client for over 10 years now. Coming into the shop feels like I am simply coming to sit, have coffee, catch up with friends and I think most clients would agree. However, after coffee with other friends my hair doesn’t ever look as great as it does then when I leave a conversation with Winnie Kok Salo. Classicut has a...n extremely welcoming and warm environment and as soon as you walk in the door to when you’re sitting in the chair, they ensure you are comfortable. The business officially opened as of March 1st, 1982 which means they are quickly approaching 40 years of business (March 1st, 2022). I always enjoy asking business owners about their early days and what it was like in the beginning. When asking Winnie, she happily responded with how wonderful the community was, it was all wonderful right away Winnie Kok Salo Throughout the interview we touched on the fact that many people who grew up in the area experienced their very fist haircut in one of Winnie’s chairs. This is something so special as Winnie and her other stylists get to watch their clients grow up while cutting their hair on a regular basis. Classicut is open 6 days a week Monday Saturday They open everyday at 9 am and closing times vary depending on appointments They have a wonderful team including 4 stylists Winnie Kok Salo, Brittany Salo, Sammie Thompson, Rebecca Robinson, and one student Myla Haskell Services offered include Colouring Facial Waxing Cuts Texture services Products offered include Large range of retail products for different hair needs Bath and body products Mens products Hair appliances Gifts baskets & gift cards per request If you would like to book appointment you can simply walk in as Classicut Hair Design is located at 22 Front Street, Nipigon or give them call at 1 (807) 887 3061 Remember how important it is to shop local and support our wonderful local businesses like Winnie’s!

Well we all know what day it is welcome today's FEATURE FRIDAY! Now her business is called Sweet Treats, but I realized shortly after talking with Chantal that she really is the sweet treat in all of this. When I showed up for the interview, she was busy doing what does best - making delicious chocolates! Chantal Goupil originally from Kapuskasing has always had a passion for baking and has been making handmade chocolates for 15 years. However, Sweet Treats and what it is to...day would not be what she would have ever imagined. Most people would probably assume different due to her amazing successes since moving to the region. Chantal worked at the Casino in Thunder Bay for 18 years and it all really started when she took a cake decorating class with a friend. Slowly over the years what began as a hobby has grown into a wonderful business. She moved to Township of Red Rock in February of 2018 and officially started operating Sweet Treats full time as of June 2019. I think I can say on behalf of most people we are SO happy she has done so after tasting any of her delicious products. From specialty cakes to decadent desserts Chantal makes it all. More importantly if you have a unique or custom design, she is the woman for the job. She can take your creative ideas and bring them to life in dessert form! Sweet Treats products include Custom Cakes Cupcakes Cake Pops Handmade chocolates (milk chocolate, salted caramel, butterscotch, cookies n’ cream, peanut butter, and coffee) Paint your own cookies Decorated Cookies Breads and other baked goods She can cater to different allergies and makes gluten free and nut free options for select products Services available are Catering for different events (weddings, parties, etc.) Available to teach classes (cookie decorating, cupcake decorating, etc.) Print images in edible ink and can scan your favourite image right onto a cake (you can e-mail the photo or give her the original copy to scan) Chantal is extremely flexible and there are no specific business hours so you contact her at any time through her Facebook page or at 807-472-8698 The most amazing part of interviewing local business owners such as Chantal is hearing about the incredible support from everyone in the surrounding communities. She expressed how extremely welcoming Red Rock has been and this proves why as a region we are SO special. We help each other and offer support to those who work hard and provide great products and services. Keep up the great work Sweet Treats! I hope these features help to remind you about the amazing businesses we have in the area and how extremely important shopping local can be. The amount of pictures I can add to a post is limited so to view more of Sweet Treats past please visit their Facebook page.

Happy Friday everyone! (netflix & massages say whaaaaa?) Today for FEATURE FRIDAY we have the pleasure of showcasing Corinna Dampier's Hometown Hygiene - dental hygiene clinic the wonderful business located right in the Nipigon District Memorial Hospital at 125 Hogan Road, Nipigon ON. The office is located across the hall from the long term care dining room. ... This was an extremely exciting interview because not only are we featuring a great local business, but she will be celebrating 10 YEARS of business as of December 1st, 2019. She officially opened her doors or chair you could say December 1st, 2009 and has been working hard ever since. Although Corinna has happily been running Hometown Hygiene for 10 years, she has been a registered dental hygienist for the past 23 years and you can tell when speaking with her she is passionate about her job and takes her work very seriously. Hometown Hygiene is open throughout the week and hours may vary depending on appointments. However, Saturday and Sunday the office is closed. Services offered include Teeth cleaning Oral cancer exams Oral assessment Whitening Desensitizing Sports guards Cavity prevention Denture care Referrals She will work with any dentist and can work with all benefit plans in order to make sure that all coverage you are eligible for will be taken care of. OKAY now this might have to be one of my FAVOURITE interviews as it included a massage and Netflix. (of course I had to try it) That’s right everyone her dental chair also doubles as a massage chair and while she cleans your teeth you could continue to binge watch that show on Netflix you can’t get enough of. Corinna has experience working with apprehensive patients and really makes sure everyone is comfortable and that she does her job in a way that makes it easiest for her patient. She even has a dental toy set for little ones to play with and familiarize themselves with the dental office and hygienist. A lot of people have fears or can be worried about dental work. Corinna is the perfect hygienist to help you through those doubts while cleaning your teeth or any other service she offers. . If you are interested in making an appointment you can contact Corinna Corinna through her Facebook page for Hometown Hygiene - dental hygiene clinic or at 1 807 887 2421

Well...you all know what day it is! Happy FEATURE FRIDAY Today I am excited to feature Nipigon’s very own Nipigon General Store. The store that has it all...as said by local Glena Clearwater if they don’t have it, you don’t need it! ... Anne Marie Cartwright & Terry Cartwright officially opened the business on January 3rd of 2007 and it has been growing ever since. Especially when it comes to their products and services. When I walk into this store I feel very comfortable and love to browse the aisles. They are extremely welcoming and even welcome those pets walking by throughout the day with water bowl outside the store front just for them. Some great items that have in stock include furniture paint (Bee by the Sea), crafting supplies, all of the cords/chargers/adapters you could think of... even for those that have a cassette player in their car!! They sell lots of great clothing especially when wanting to show your hometown pride or get a great souvenir with Nipigon branded clothing. Lots of people also purchase the Hi-Vis safety apparel they offer which is great for work related tasks. Anne also explained that they work with local trappers and have lots of furs and leathers such as deer skin, cow hide etc. From essential oils to seasonal decorations they really do have it all! I asked Anne & Terry what their favourite thing about running the store is and they both replied meeting all the diverse customers and chatting with people that walk through the door which I truly believe from personal experience because every time I go in the store we get caught up in conversation. Their hours of operation are Monday to Friday 9:30am - 6:00pm Saturday 10:00am - 6:00pm Sunday 12:00pm - 4:00pm Remember how important it is to shop local and support our local economy! Great work Anne & Terry! Very excited because this week for FEATURE FRIDAY we are featuring Canadian Tire. I had the pleasure of sitting down with the owner Jason Yung and discussing his journey with not only the business but in our community. Jason his wife Marissa Yung and their three children Alice, Olivia, and Elliott were given the best Northern-Ontario-Welcome of 5 ft of snow to trek through when they arrived. They officially opened the doors to the store he now owns January 30th, 2019 here... in the Township of Nipigon. The stores growth since then has been amazing. Jason and Marissa’s hard work and dedication to the business with the help of their amazing team of employees have allowed it to already surpass sales records and goals since opening in January. Not only have they had a positive impact on the business but also our community. They have given tremendous support whether its been through donations or volunteering their time to help with different local events. Jason and his family have a long history with Canadian Tire as he is the third generation to be connected to the business. This is something that you can see in their work as they are passionate about serving their customers and the area the best they possibly can. The hours of operation are 9am 6pm Monday to Saturday 12pm 4pm Sunday When I asked Jason, what is the one thing you want people to know he said I am a solution provider, if you need something, if you have a crazy request, please just ask as I will do my best to help and get it Although the store physically is the smallest in Canada their spirit and presence must be one of the largest. The Crabby’s team is great with their soci...al media and always posting updates on new items on the menu or things that they now have stocked. Make sure to check out their Facebook page! I think it’s safe to say some fan favourites especially for the kids are delicious slush puppies and who can forget the AMAZING pizza!!! Way to go guys! Well it's FRIDAY folks, and you know what that means... it's time for our "Feature Friday" (and time to head out and enjoy the weekend, yes that too) Today we would like to feature the Township of Red Rock's very own Dampier's Offshore Variety store. Todd Dampier opened the doors with it's new name officially as of March 1, 2018. Offshore variety added many new items to offer customers such as take out food ( pizza, poutine, mozza sticks, pogos, chicken fingers, deep fried p...ickles.. etc) Snacks that include mini donuts, slush puppies, chips, chocolate bars, candies. Also other great items such as fishing tackle, rods, camping supplies, hair products, school supplies, pet food, gifts , cards, magazines, ice cream, pop, milk, ice cubes and blocks, lottery tickets, and cigarettes. To us it sounds like this variety store really does have it all! You can see more on their Facebook page including the hours of operation which today are 8 am - 8 pm and updates on what other products they are stocking the shelves with. Thank you Dampier's Offshore Variety store and great work! #shoplocal #featurefriday
