Investigators with the York Regional Police Special Victims Unit Sexual Assault Section are releasing video and photos of the suspect sought in a sexual assau...lt investigation in the Town of Aurora. On Monday, June 24, 2019, at 11:50 a.m., York Regional Police were called to John West Way north of Wellington Street for a report that a teenage girl was injured and had been sexually assaulted. Investigators have determined that the female victim was walking in the trails west of John West Way when she was approached by an unknown man, assaulted and sexually assaulted by a suspect who was armed with a handgun. The victim was taken to hospital and treated for her injuries. Investigators have obtained video surveillance from the area prior to the incident and are releasing images and three videos of the suspect. The suspect is urged to seek legal advice and turn himself in and anyone who may recognize him are asked to contact police immediately. Investigators are also looking to speak to a young woman in her late teens with blond hair who was riding York Transit bus #1088 on the date of the incident. At 11:20 a.m., the woman got off the bus on Wellington Street and was followed by the suspect who approached her and spoke to her. This woman was seen going into Tim Hortons following the interaction. Investigators are interested in the details of this interaction and want to ensure she was not a victim of any offence.
