We’ve all felt blue at least once in our life. Stress, illness, economic problems, heartbreaks among many other things we struggle with in everyday life can all cause feelings of depression. Before this deadly virus had us all locked inside our homes, it was easier to fight off the blues by going for a walk or meeting a friend for a cup of coffee. But the times have changed. Being stuck inside four walls, having to repeat the same routine day after day can take a toll on yo...ur mental health. It’s important not to bury your feelings inside as it can lead to more problems in the future. Speaking to a therapist can help you learn how to work through your emotions and issues and can make you feel much better. The beauty of talk therapy is that it doesn’t just address the symptoms, but also the cause of the problems. Psychotherapy can help you rewire your brain to identify the negative thought patterns and replace them with new and more positive mental habits. Considering the current world situation we understand that many people are in need of psychotherapy, but with the increasing number of layoffs most simply cannot afford to pay the full price. That’s why we reduced our fees to make psychotherapy accessible to everyone. We are currently offering: $30 for 30 min (regular $75) $45 for 45 min (regular $112.50) $60 for 60 min (regular $150) All sessions are available by phone, Facetime, Skype and WhatsApp. Simply go to www.bookattmc.ca to book your appointment. *If you are struggling to pay for therapy, please reach out to us at [email protected] and our Patient Care Coordinators will do their best to help you.

This day you hear a lot about mental health on social media, yet the stigma is still there. Despite the widespread attention mental illnesses have been getting, there is still a lot of misconceptions about the subject. Many of our patients admitted to suffering in silence for years before finally deciding to seek professional help. Mental illnesses just like physical illnesses can take many forms and can vary in their severity. The good news is that all mental illnesses can b...e treated. . . According to CMHA:. . Who is affected? -Mental illness indirectly affects all Canadians at some time through a family member, friend or colleague. -In any given year, 1 in 5 people in Canada will personally experience a mental health problem or illness. -Mental illness affects people of all ages, education, income levels, and cultures. -Approximately 8% of adults will experience major depression at some time in their lives. -About 1% of Canadians will experience bipolar disorder (or manic depression). . . How common is it? -By age 40, about 50% of the population will have or have had a mental illness. -Schizophrenia affects 1% of the Canadian population. -Anxiety disorders affect 5% of the household population, causing mild to severe impairment. -Suicide accounts for 24% of all deaths among 15-24 year olds and 16% among 25-44 year olds. -Suicide is one of the leading causes of death in both men and women from adolescence to middle age. -The mortality rate due to suicide among men is four times the rate among women. . . What causes it? -A complex interplay of genetic, biological, personality and environmental factors causes mental illnesses. -Almost one half (49%) of those who feel they have suffered from depression or anxiety have never gone to see a doctor about this problem. -Stigma or discrimination attached to mental illnesses presents a serious barrier, not only to diagnosis and treatment but also to acceptance in the community. -Mental illnesses can be treated effectively. . . We get a lot of patients coming to us with complaints on chronic back pain or headaches.
