A CAUTIONARY TALE: Recently I decided to make use of some the #Airmiles that I have been collecting since the early 90's for a trip to Venice and Croatia. When I booked the flight through the #Airmiles online chat facility I didn't know exactly when I'd be returning but I knew exactly when I had to be in Venice -- I'm participating in a photography workshop but thought I might extend my stay and do a little travelling ... since I was there anyway. So I booked via the chat f...acility as I said thinking I'd connect later with #Airmiles once my plans had firmed up. This is where it gets interesting. I WASN'T TOLD that I had to to book the COMPLETE round trip at the time I made the booking. When I connected again once I knew my return date I was informed "oh no you can't do that we can only book a complete round trip". Rather than loose my cool with the person I chatted online with because really, they are just a powerless minion working for a large corporation, I spoke with an online agent (after several attempts and SEVERAL frustrating hours waiting on the phone . i.e. "The wait time for the next available service representative is TWO HOURS" ... OMG !! but finally having nothing better to do and owning a phone headset I thought what the heck I'll be productive while I wait for hell to freeze over. Only to be told the same story by the Customer Representative ... again rather than loosing it (at this time I was this ".." close to going postal all over someone's ass) I calmly asked to speak with a supervisor ... who understood that if I were to rebook the round trip flight I'd be forfeiting 4000+ #Airmiles in order to use 6000+ #Airmiles to book the round trip. I repeat again that I was NEVER told while booking the original flight that I won't be able to book a return flight at a later time using my accumulated #Airmiles. Am I severely pissed with #Airmiles you bet. Did they offer to make the situation right for me? NO!!! Will I ever book a flight through #Airmiles again ... maybe but jeez Louise I'll be asking A LOT of questions first !! BTW I did loose it a little over the unconscionable wait times telling her that any other business would be out of business if they persisted in making their customers wait so long to transact business.
