Several weeks ago, I had multiple posts showing all the Barkman product that I had been hauling into this site. Well it's been a process.....and we aren't finished yet.....but here's a peek at what we've been up to. One climber (@thelimbwalker) & one groundie (@rosswjordan) .....two 35 to 40 feet tall White Spruces. Actual time to get these two trees to the ground......55 minutes (give or take). Another 30 minutes to finish chipping. Employee Ross Jordan is tending to the top of the root ball on this Butternut tree. Did you know that the majority of nursery grown trees are planted to deep in the pot, container, or wire basket. Not because the nursery is doing this on purpose but more due to the care they receive while being grown in the field. Over time soil builds up over the tree's natural root flare (the area where the truck flares out to the roots). This is primarily due to cultivation/tilling while m...anaging weeds around the trees. So, Ross is excavating the top of the root ball to find the flare and untangle any girdling roots (roots wrapped around the trunk). This way we can ensure that the tree is planted at the right height and we can give it the best chance of survival for many years to come. If these problems aren't rectified at planting, the tree may: 1. Get choked to the point of decline or death by its own root structure later in life 2. A little Before & After. This family had to have their sewer line replaced, which left their front yard in need of repair. After loading up and hauling away the excess and old, I leveled the yard through the use of the Bobcat T650 with smooth bucket and soil conditioner attachment. With the right equipment, it is amazing what can be accomplished by one person/operator in a short period of time.... I called in another employee for a few hours to help install a beautiful Butternut tree and new mineral sod. Sometimes Lady Luck is on your side! Yesterday I started changing hitches to hook up to a different trailer and became side tracked. I drove across town to pick up a skid steer bucket and on my way back to shop, I remembered that I left the hitch pin on my receiver. Well that's gone! I've been putting this off for far to long, but today is the last day of having to rely on Jerry Cans of fuel and time wasting trips to the gas station! Today, after hauling in 11 pallets of Barkman Roman Pavers - Sierra Grey, I can honestly say, my paving stone and wall products are all finally on site. This year has created an industry wide shortage in hardscaping products....something I have never experienced in my 18 years in this industry. However, now that the stress of trying to secure the products required to do this landscape has ended, I can focus on the job at hand. What lengths does your landscaper go to, to ensure they are providing their customers with the best finished product possible? Here I'm putting in some time on the cordless Milwaukee M18 Fuel 9" Grinder with diamond cup wheel. It's not the nicest job in a hot day, but it's one of the steps required to ensuring this wall is as good as it can be. Even though this Barkman Rosetta Belvedere Wall is a fabulous product, it still needs a little help to make it perfect. That moment.....when you finish cutting through a tree and realize that it's also a home to Bumble Bees! In the late summer of 2015, we had the opportunity to work with this couple to design and install a landscape that suited their dream home. Five years later, their vision and needs from their yard has changed. So their landscape is getting version 2.0 The pool went in late last fall and was finished this spring. Now it's our turn to tie in the former landscape to the newly transformed.... In the weeks to come, this site will see the addition of a partial wrap around poolside patio, multiple staircases, structural retaining/aesthetic walls, revamped irrigation system, and new sod to hide the symptoms of construction! Today was a good day....in tight quarters, we excavated approx 70 yards of fill. Tomorrow the excavation will be finished. Monday we will start the process of putting everything back together. That's a wrap..... Last fall, this customer had this beautiful, new pool installed in their backyard. This spring, we designed and installed this hardscape to complete their project. From the step to the paving stone patio, everything on this project was #barkmanconcrete.... For the step and the retaining walls, we used Barkman Bridgewood Wall, Barkman Bridgewood Step, and Barkman Bridgewood Slab, all in 'Cedar Brown'. This is all concrete.....even though it looks like timber. Some people have to touch it to believe it! For the patio, we used timeless Barkman Roman Paver in 'Antique Brown'. This landscape is now ready to enjoy for years to come.
