We groom a lot of Doodles so thought it be a great idea to do a little video about coat change and matting! Doodles and other similar coated dogs go through a c...oat change around 8-12 months where their adult coats grow in underneath their puppy coats. Because this transition can happen fast it can catch new owners off guard and lead to serious matting right next to the skin. How tight and how close the matting is to the skin will dictate how long your groomer is able to leave the length. Regular grooming (every 6-8 weeks), brushing at home and shorter haircuts around this transition time are the best way to keep a matted dog from happening! Remember, a non or low shedding coat means that the hair doesn't break or pull out so dematting these types of coat can be painful and extremely uncomfortable for your dog. Grooming is a career that requires a lot of patience and love so always keep in mind that your groomer has your bff's best interests in mind if they deem the coat to matted to brush out. Your grooming Crüe! **Side note! We’ve had a few comments about the dog in the tub at the beginning of the video. Our groomer was trying to turn a dog (Molly) in the tub when Molly decided that half a bath was good enough! Our groomer, thanks to her ninja like reflexes, was able to wrangle her back in the tub leaving Molly only to be salty about her failed attempt at a 50% off discount! See more
