It is not uncommon to have your Dental Hygienist recommend a hygiene maintenance appointment frequency on 3/4 month intervals. The goal for your mouth is to support you achieving oral health (sometimes that means more frequent cleanings and sometimes that means you need to work on your home care). What does oral health look like? No inflammation (redness, bleeding, swelling, and tenderness are signs of disease). A stable periodontal condition means that you can keep the plaque/biofilm from building up and there’s no signs of gingivitis. I love being able to tell people, oh look, you’ve done great; I have nothing to do!

With the authorization of a COVID-19 vaccine in Canada, Canadians may be wondering: - What are the steps to follow to develop a vaccine? - What is a clinical ...trial? - What needs to be assessed? All vaccines in Canada must follow a well-established process to ensure their safety, efficacy and quality. In order to be authorized, vaccines must go through a rigorous review process demonstrating that the benefits outweigh the risks. Did you know there are different techniques of brushing style? The one I educate the most on is called the modified bass. When Registered Dental Hygienists receive their education they learn different techniques as each person may have something different going on which requires a different style of toothbrushing. Oral hygiene instruction can be more complex then just brush and floss. Bass: -Hold the toothbrush sideways against your teeth with some of the bristles touchin...g your gums. -Tilt the brush so the bristles are at 45 degree angle and pointing at your gum line. -Move the brush back and forth, using short strokes. The tips of the bristles should stay in one place, but the head of the brush should wiggle back and forth. You also can make tiny circles with the brush. This allows the bristles to slide gently under the gum. Do this for about 20 strokes or 20 circles. -Repeat for every tooth, on the insides and outsides. -The toe bristles of the brush can be used to clean the lingual (tongue) surface of the anterior teeth. Modified Bass: -Follow all the steps of the Bass technique. -After the vibratory motion has been completed in each area, sweep the bristles over the crown of the tooth, toward biting surface of the tooth. Importance of these methods: Most effective in cleaning cervical 1/3 & beneath gingival margins Suitable for everyone Periodontally healthy & periodontally disease Periodontal maintenance Cleanses sulcus (space between tooth and gums) (taken from: https://tube.medchrome.com//brushing-technique-bass-and-mo)

In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below.... We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields.

Offering mobile dental hygiene services looks much different than a traditional dental experience. It takes hours or prep/organization, 20 minutes to set up and take down (if you’re good at it), and often means working in positions that are not ergonomically appropriate. We love the opportunity to serve residents at care homes! Providing dental hygiene care onsite has many benefits. Each mobile dental hygienist has found a way to offer their services, and there’s usually on...e in major cities! What does regulated healthcare professional even mean? Why is this important for you to know? Dental Hygienists are self-governed; RDH’s are recognized in the Health Professions Act. In Alberta, the College of Registered Dental Hygienists of Alberta gives RDH’s a scope of practice to diagnose and treat oral conditions; we provide dental hygiene services within those specifications. We are continuing to provide oral health care with the new restrictions that were recently an...nounced. Thank you so much for all of your continued support throughout COVID-19. We continue to be diligent and provide a safe environment by doing pre-screening, reducing people inside the office at a time, and adhering to strict infection prevention & control protocols. If you are feeling unwell, please call us to reschedule your appointment at 780-513-1399. We are here to help maintain and improve your oral health during this pandemic, we are in it together. We would be grateful if you can share this post. Good news! The announcement yesterday had me seriously concerned about having dental hygiene services shutdown. For now, we are still open! Dental Hygienists are regulated healthcare professionals. This office follows the guidelines put together by the College of Registered Dental Hygienists of Alberta (CRDHA). We continue to wipe all surfaces and touch points after each client, prefer one client inside at a time (one on one care!), try to complete all forms electronically ahead of time (if able), enclosed and private treatment room, room purifier by Surgically Clean Air, and I’m sure there’s more, but I can’t think of it right now!
